Draws announced for 48th Annual TCU Bi-County Tournament

LAKEVILLE — The draws have been announced for the 48th annual Bi-County Basketball Tournaments.
The tournament, sponsored by Teachers Credit Union and hosted by LaVille High School, will run from January 14-19. Admission prices are $5 for single session tickets and $15 for full tourney admission, good for all games at all levels.

Cvitkovic powers Lady Eagles past Cavaliers in crosstown rivalry game

CULVER — Culver Girls Academy leading scorer Andrijana Cvitkovic recorded just a single solitary basket in the opening nine minutes Wednesday.
The rest of the contest told an entirely different tale.
The 6-foot-3 senior post scored 22 of her game-high 24 points over the final three quarters, and also grabbed six rebounds, swatted four shots, and swiped three steals to lead the Eagles to a 54-43 girls basketball win over cross-town rival Culver Community at John R. Nelson Gymnasium.

Wildcats trump Bobcats on special night at The Den

HAMLET — Oregon-Davis added South Bend Riley to its schedule this year to give the Bobcats a challenge.
And that’s exactly what the Wildcats did.
Riley’s defensive pressure generated 35 OD turnovers, while the Wildcats showed balance on the offensive end with five players contributing meaningful points production. The visitors put the game away early, jumping out to a 30-point cushion in the first half en route to a 71-35 victory over host Oregon-Davis at The Den Wednesday night.

OD commemorates ‘88 championship team

HAMLET — Before the Bobcats tipped off against Riley Wednesday, Oregon-Davis paid tribute to one of the program’s fondest memories in a special pre-game ceremony at The Den.
The school hung the jerseys of Todd Blair and Scott Blum, and Blum — the program’s career scoring record-holder — delivered a few words as OD commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Bobcats’ 1988 sectional championship season.

Triton rallies at Tippy Valley
Triton overcame a slow start and a 16-point deficit at the first quarter break to rally past host Tippecanoe Valley 58-54 Wednesday night.
Taylor Hatfield scored a game-high 21 points, and Krystal Sellers finished with 10 points, eight assists and four steals for the Lady Trojans, who won their third straight.
Tippy Valley was paced by 15 points from Caylie Teel, and Kelsey Ball grabbed 17 rebounds as the Vikings outrebounded Triton 52-39.
The Trojans move to 6-2 on the year and will host Northern State Conference foe Bremen Friday.

Lancers win home opener vs Argos

LAKEVILLE — Last Friday, Argos forward Ben Carter’s 21 points helped power the Dragons to their first win of the season. Following that performance, LaVille made him a focal point in the team’s home opener Tuesday night.
The Lancers double teamed Carter in the paint to hold the 6-6 junior scoreless, and the home team claimed a 47-32 win over visiting Argos in LaVille’s home opener at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium.

Trojans get defensive in dominant 75-44 win over North Miami

BOURBON — The Triton Trojans won in dominate fashion as they defeated the North Miami Warriors 75-44 at the Trojan Trench Tuesday night.
The Trojans jumped on them early with a 16-2 run and never let off of the accelerator. Clay Yeo started the scoring with a breakaway dunk which got the crowd going. He dropped in 36 points along with eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals for a nice all-around game.
Yeo was helped out by a good effort from teammates Tanner Shepherd and Seth Glingle who had 11 and 12 respectively.

Argos seniors honored by ISCA

INDIANAPOLIS — Several Argos seniors were among those honored as the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association (ISCA) announced the girls winners for 2012.
Lady Dragon seniors Emily Alcorn, Samantha Hopkins, Karlee VanDerWeele and Madeline Williams were named All-Academic. This award goes to players making a significant on-field contribution while maintaining a high grade-point average.
Senior Kayla Prochno was selected as the Top Team Player, an award to a player making a unique impact on the team and program as a whole.

Pilgrims down Indians as St. Joe unveils new gym
Mack Mercer finished with 19 points, six rebounds and six blocks, and Class 3A No. 10 Plymouth stayed undefeated with a win on the road at the unveiling of South Bend St. Joseph’s new gym Tuesday, 57-45.
The 6-9 junior did it all for Plymouth as he knocked down a pair of 3s in the win. His dunk early in the third quarter broke a piece of the backboard, causing a 20-minute delay in the first game at the Indians’ new gymnasium.
Joe Knapp scored a game co-leading 19 for the Pilgrims, who moved to 3-0 on the season.

Lady Pilgrims take 1st loss
South Bend Washington used a 25-6 third quarter to hand Plymouth its first loss of the season at the Lady Pilgrims’ home at The Rock Monday, 55-45.
Amber Redinger finished with a 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Plymouth, while Kaydon Fosler knocked down four 3s en route to 15 points, and Hunter Stevens scored 12 in a game moved up from Wednesday.
