BOURBON — Facing an exhausted lineup in the huddle with a little under three minutes on the clock, Triton head coach Jason Groves urged his players on: Give it all you’ve got for just a little longer, and there’ll be plenty of time to rest over Christmas break.
And, of course, heading into the holiday layover with a win always feels a lot better than the alternative.
Lancers avoid letdown
Andrew Hostetler scored a game-high 17 points, while Jeff Haygood supplied a season-high 10 pints, and the Lancers beat North Judson 58-34 at home Tuesday night.
Blake Berger and Nicholas Amor both finished with nine points, and Ryan Bettcher scored eight for the balanced Lancers, who avoided a letdown coming off a big win at John Glenn Saturday.
Judson was paced by Shawn Green’s 12 points, and Dalton Bailey chipped in eight for his team in the loss, which drops the Bluejays to 2-4 on the season.
INDIANAPOLIS — Triton senior Clay Yeo was selected as one of seven IBCA/Subway Player of the Week selections for the week of Dec. 10-15.
Other boys selections were Adams Central senior Dalton Combs, Indianapolis Lutheran senior J.C. Faubion and Evansville Bosse junior JaQuan Lyle, while Logansport junior Whitney Jennings, Brownsburg senior Stephanie Mavunga and Sullivan senior Rhagen Smith were also honored in the weekly recognition program organized by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

LaVille’s Andrew Hostetler finished with 17 points to lead the Lancers as they broke a 19-game series losing streak to John Glenn on Saturday.
Bremen’s Sara Slabaugh scored a game-high 26 points as the Lady Lions earned their first win against Knox Friday night.
NAPPANEE — Snapping a losing streak always feels pretty good. Doing it on the road at No. 7 Northern Lakes Conference rival NorthWood makes it even sweeter.
The Lady Pilgrims used an 8-0 second quarter-opening run to jump out to a 17-9 lead on the host Lady Panthers after a nip-tuck first period, and the visitors never surrendered the lead again in an eventual 42-34 NLC win that snapped a three-game skid in Nappanee Saturday night.
WALKERTON — LaVille’s boys basketball team put together quite a first-quarter stretch Saturday at John Glenn.
It paled in comparison to the streak the Lancers terminated.
Propelled by sophomore guard Blake Berger and a 17-1 rampage to open the battle, LaVille ended a 19-game winless streak covering nearly 16 years against the Falcons with a 52-36 Northern State Conference victory at The Aerie.
WALKERTON — Just consider the John Glenn Lady Falcons a rapid response team.
The Falcons, led by two triples apiece from Kyler Columbia, Carah Ochs and Natalie Shetler in the final 10 minutes of the game, quickly answered every LaVille second-half threat en route to a 65-46 Northern State Conference girls basketball victory at The Aerie Saturday.
With the victory — Glenn’s eighth straight — the Falcons doubled last season’s win total.
