Now that all-mighty Alabama has lost, Notre Dame’s path to college football’s national championship game has become less crowded. Just two teams — Kansas State and Oregon — stand in the way of one of the most storied college programs in history having a shot at the title.
ARGOS — On the heels of its repeat Northern Indiana Soccer Conference championship season, the Argos girls soccer team was awarded four first team and four second team All-NISC picks, it was announced Wednesday.
Senior forward Jami Patterson and senior goalkeeper Karlee VanDerWeele were both named to the league’s first team, as were junior mid Raelynn LaFrance and junior back Shelby Sanders.

ARGOS — Triton girls basketball head coach Adam Heckaman expected a game of runs at Argos Tuesday.
The two highly-touted teams proved Heckaman right, with his Class A No. 6 squad delivering the decisive spurt in the second half on its way to a 54-47 win over the Class A No. 10 Dragons at Phil Weybright Gymnasium.
After falling behind 29-26 with 2:51 left in the third quarter, the Trojans boosted the tempo and rattled off seven straight points to end the frame, taking the lead for good with Kylie Mason’s triple in transition off a dish from Taylor Hatfield at the 2:10 mark.
BREMEN — Although it is still very early in the high school girls basketball season, Bremen and North Judson were antsy for that initial victory while facing off Tuesday at the Lions Den.
Both played well on this night, but it was the Lady Jays who reached the ‘W’ column first after winning 70-60 in the non-league game that was much closer than the final score indicates.
ARGOS — The Argos boys soccer team was awarded six All-Northern Indiana Soccer Conference picks — including NISC Player of the Year honors — following the Dragons’ conference championship season, the team announced Tuesday.
Sophomore striker Damon Binkley was voted the league’s player of the year, while fellow sophomores Josiah Osborn, Taylor Ogle and Zack Stockman were all named first team All-NISC. Senior Jordan O’Dell and junior Dominic Cataldo were selected for second team honors, meanwhile.

Behind senior guard Ochs, sophomore Kyler Columbia put up 14 points for Glenn as the Lady Falcons’ backcourt knocked down nine 3-pointers to trump the Eagles front line for the win.
