Lady Lions fall to Panthers in 8 in chilly home opener

April 1, 2011

BREMEN — The Lady Lions started their home schedule strong but couldn’t hold on as Washington chipped away at a six-run deficit to eventually overcome its host 10-7 in eight cold, windy innings at Bremen Thursday.
“I think we started off good, jumped out quick and early and got off to a fast start, but I think after that we relaxed a little bit,” said Bremen head softball coach Josh Walter. “I don’t know if it’s spring break break coming up or the weather or what it was, thinking about other things. I thought we were in good shape early… and made mistakes at the end.”

Late rally gives Lions opening day win over Fairfield

April 1, 2011

BREMEN — In a tie game in the bottom of the sixth inning in Thursday’s season opener, the Bremen baseball team came through with clutch hitting and base running when it mattered most.
A two-RBI triple by Dillon Mullen, a sacrifice-bunt RBI by Wes Burkholder and an RBI double by Eric Knepper delivered an 8-4 victory over Fairfield.
“It’s great to get out here against a quality team like Fairfield and to come out with a win against them,” Bremen coach Bo Hundt said.

Ancilla softball team receives national recognition

April 1, 2011

DONALDSON — The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its first Division II softball poll of the season and the Lady Chargers of Ancilla College were listed as one of five teams receiving votes after the nation’s top 20.
Ancilla entered Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference action over the weekend with a 10-4 record before dropping its first two conference games.
“It’s an honor to be mentioned and recognized,” commented Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “The important thing is to make sure we are here at the end of the season too.”
