BOURBON — After four straight losses to Triton, Plymouth wanted to make a statement early in new head coach Ryan Bales’ first game at the helm.
Point taken.
The Pilgrims used swarming fullcourt pressure to hold their Marshall County rivals to 2 of 15 from the field in the first half en route to a 27-17 lead at the intermission, then withstood a late rally early in the second half by the Trojans for a 60-43 season-opening victory on the road at the Trojan Trench Tuesday.

LAKEVILLE — LaVille head coach Michael Edison didn’t feel he said anything particularly inspiring at his team’s first time out.
The Lancers sure came out of the break like a team on fire, though.
Edison burned his team’s first time out at the 6:04 mark of the second quarter after a 4-0 quarter-opening mini run by visiting Westville cut LaVille’s lead to a single point, 15-14. When play resumed, the Lancers ran out the half on a 22-7 tear to take control of the game for good in an eventual 72-56 season-opening win over the visiting Blackhawks at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Friday night.
Oregon-Davis fans cheer on the Bobcats in their boys basketball season opener at Triton Wednesday.
