Pilgrims, Eagles advance at CMA Regional

CULVER — Scouting Columbia City, Plymouth knew to expect strong second sets from the Eagles.
Pilgrims No. 3 singles player Luke Bumpus held off his surging opponent during a competitive second set, as did Jordan Scheetz and Connor Flynn at 1 doubles and Matt Flynn and Joe Knapp at 2 doubles, while No. 2 Lane Singleton recovered from a second-set loss for an eventual tiebreaker win, and the Pilgrims grabbed a 4-1 Culver Military Academy Regional semifinal win Tuesday at the Gable Tennis Complex.

ARGOS — Sitting out intermittent stretches of the season with a hamstring injury, it’s taken awhile for Argos freshman Megan Ditmire to get rolling. Once she did, she brought the whole Argos squad with her.

Girls cross country
New Prairie unseats Bremen for NSC CC championship
New Prairie grabbed the top three spots and four of the top five as it unseated Bremen for the Northern State Conference championship at the NSC girls cross country meet Tuesday in New Carlisle. It was New Prairie’s 16th conference title in the last 20 years.
The Lady Cougars finished with a dominant 18 points ahead of Bremen’s 44, while Triton finished with 75 points, Jimtown had 89 points, and Culver Community, Knox and LaVille all raced at the meet.

Houston Hodges leads Wabash defense in homecoming shutout

CRAWFORDSVILLE — Plymouth graduate Houston Hodges was voted the Wabash Player of the Game and the Defensive Player of the Game as Wabash handed visiting Kenyon a 49-0 win on Homecoming Day Saturday.
The freshman had a huge strip on the first Kenyon possession and had an interception return 74 yards for a touchdown only to be called back due to a penalty.
Hodges also recorded three tackles at the game along with older brother Austin Hodges, while fellow Plymouth grad Brock Smith finished the game with five kickoffs for 304 yards.
