October 25th
FORT WAYNE â The team season might be over for the Bremen girls cross country squad, but the stateâs biggest race remains for one Lions senior.
Bremen finished 12th in Saturdayâs New Haven cross country semi-state at The Plex, an expected result considering the quality of the 20-team field.
âWe knew our chances of going on as a team were slim,â Bremen coach Mick Gardner said. âWe came here to have fun with it and enjoy it.â
PLYMOUTH â As predicted, the teams with the better serve receive game won, and as anticipated, No. 7 Mishawaka Marian won its fourth straight sectional title while Plymouth and Culver Girls Academy bowed out in the semifinal round of play Saturday at the Class 3A Volleyball Sectional.
Plymouth fell in three competitive games 25-22, 25-19, 26-24 to the defending champion Lady Knights, while CGA also lost in the minimum of games in its semifinal with eventual tourney runner-up South Bend St. Josephâs.

BOURBON â With one last flying leap Triton defensive back Zak Shively spread out over the goal line for a third-quarter go-ahead touchdown.
From there, the junior quarterback half of the âZak Attackâ took over for the Trojans.
For the game, Shively threw a trio of touchdown passes â one each to Jordan Koontz, Jake Tutorow, and Taran Kennedy â rushed untouched for an 18-yard score, and plunged in for a 2-point conversion following his 19-yard fumble return to lead the Trojans to a 34-19 win over visiting West Central in Class A Sectional 33 first-round action Friday.
WALKERTON â It wasnât the sectional start John Glenn wanted, but the Falcons will take it.
Down a pair of starters and coming off a Northern State Conference championship loss and a two-day break, Glenn got off to a bumpy start Friday.
PLYMOUTH â They say it is a game of inches, and Plymouthâs Rockies certainly believe that this morning.
After a valiant effort against a very talented and athletic South Bend Washington team the Rockies watched a 40-yard field goal attempt by the Panthersâ Cesar Mercado hit the cross bar, bounce in the air and fall good, ending a season of maniacal ups and downs in a 31-29 final score.
BREMEN â Heroes are made in the postseason, and Bremenâs Braxston Miller became one in Friday nightâs Class 2A Sectional 26 opener.
After a Whitko field goal to start overtime, Millerâs 3-yard touchdown gave Bremen a 20-14 victory to put the Lions in the second round against Fairfield, a 45-0 winner over Woodlan.
âItâs just too much, and the crowd just went wild,â Miller said of his game-winning score. âItâs just overwhelming. Itâs awesome.â
Bremen coach Bob Holmes was ecstatic with how his team came through in the clutch.
LAKE STATION â Culver put up 21 points in the first quarter en route to a 49-7 thrashing of Lake Station in the Cavaliers' Class A, Sectional 33 opener on the road Friday.
Michael Salary finished with two touchdowns and a game-leading 151 yards rushing, while Cole Flora scored another two touchdowns and rushed for 104 yards for the defending sectional champions.
Collin Stevens and Tucker Schultz also scored for the Cavs, who outrushed their hosts 436-139 yards.
Culver will host Whiting â which beat LaVille 42-13 Friday â next week.
October 21st
PLYMOUTH â Itâs over. Thatâs about all that Plymouthâs Rockies want to remember about last week, with the opening round of the playoffs looming.
âYou can sum it up and just say it was frustrating,â said Plymouth coach John Barron of last weekâs season ending loss to NorthWood by a 7-3 score. âIt was frustrating to our kids, frustrating to our staff and I think frustrating to our fans. You shouldnât lose a game where you only give up seven points. But thatâs a long time ago now. Weâve stopped talking about it, stopped thinking about it and gone back to work.â
October 20th
PLYMOUTH â Historically, Mishawaka Marian and South Bend St. Josephâs have dominated the Plymouth Volleyball Sectional.
And although the field is generally more even this year, the two teams are favored once more, with the Lady Pilgrims following closely behind at the Class 3A Sectional 17 this week at The Rock.
October 18th
CULVER â Paced by repeat individual champion Waverly Neer, the Culver Girls Academy cross country team edged out Eastern 52-53 to claim a championship on its home course at the CGA Regional Saturday, while Plymouth's girls scored a 127 for the final semistate berth.
Paced by Neer's 17:53, the Lady Eagles secured three top-10 spots en route to the repeat team title and a ticket out to the New Prairie Semistate next Saturday. Kaye Sitterly finished fifth, and Kacie Hermanson was seventh for CGA, while Eden Brackenbury finished 21st, and Kayla-Colleen Miracle was 22nd.
