BREMEN — Heading into Saturday's final round at the Northern State Conference tennis tournament, Triton still had a shot at a piece of the crown.
KENDALLVILLE — Led by an impressive 5-under-par 67 from freshman Katie Sharp, East Noble clinched the championship while DeKalb was second, Fairfield finished third and Plymouth placed 12th at a challenging East Noble Girls Golf Regional at Cobblestone Saturday.
Erin Kinney sank a birdie on the last hole to lead the Lady Pilgrims with a score of 86, while fellow senior Megan Schank shot a 94, both Mandy McPherron and Dani Letsinger turned in scores of 101, and Emily Berger recorded a 103 at the regional contest.
CULVER — Headed into the elite Culver Academies Invitational, Bremen head cross country coach Mickey Gardner didn't know how his team would fare.
The Lady Lions had been battling injuries in recent weeks, but they responded to the challenging field and beautiful weather Saturday with four of the top 20 places to win the girls closed race with a convincing 105, 20 points ahead of their closest competitors.
Hope Jordan paced the Lions in third place, while Amy Fanning, Sara Slabaugh and Megan Burcham finished in order in 12th, 14th and 18th en route to the championship.
