October 16, 2010

CULVER — Culver Community football head coach Andy Thomas said his team treated Friday’s regular-season finale with LaVille as a playoff game.
Given the results, the defending sectional champion Cavs look poised to make a strong run at a repeat.

Rockies come up short

PLYMOUTH — For Plymouth’s Rockies it was déjà vu all over again in the fourth quarter.
Twice, the Rockies (6-3) had opportunities to score what could have been a game-winning touchdown in the game’s final five minutes. Twice an outstanding NorthWood defensive effort on fourth down turned Plymouth away empty handed and enabled the Panthers (4-5) to take home a 7-3 NLC win.

Pilgrims, Eagles, Trojans advance at CMA CC Sectional

October 13, 2010

CULVER – Culver Academies, Plymouth, and Triton cross country coaches each think their runners are capable of quicker times.
Thanks to their respective squads’ performances at the Culver Academies Cross Country Sectional Tuesday, those skippers can put those hypotheses to the test.
The Eagles pulled off their third consecutive boys-girls title sweep – the boys by a scant two points – while Plymouth and Triton also transferred both boys and girls clubs to Saturday’s regional meet, also at Culver.

Lancers beat Rochester 3-0 as Argos tourney opens

October 12, 2010

ARGOS — Despite a lackluster first half, the Lancers still entered the break in their girls soccer sectional opener against Rochester with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, they picked up the pace, scoring two more goals while recording six shots on goal for a 3-0 win over the Zebras in the Argos Girls Soccer Sectional Monday.
“I’m happy with the second half,” said LaVille head girls soccer coach Steve Hodge. “First half I thought we walked too much, which is unacceptable to me. They know that, and they picked it up. They did the job. Three-nil is fine. I have no problem with that.”

Cross country sectionals begin today

October 12, 2010

CULVER — As the 2010 Cross Country State Tournament gets underway today, Plymouth is looking to build on last year’s success.
At the Culver Academies Sectional, Plymouth’s girls hope to build on last year’s fourth-place regional-berth finish and unseat defending champion and host Culver Girls Academy.
While the Lady Eagles retain 2009 sectional and regional champion Waverly Neer from last season’s campaign as well as fellow senior Kaye Sitterly, three of last year’s top five have since moved on.
