Ruth L. Andrews

BREMEN â Ruth L. Andrews, 93, a Bremen resident, passed away following an illness, at her home at 2:12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013.
Ruth was born in Argos on the 22nd of June in 1919. She was the daughter of Frank and Goldie (Stults) Ruffing.
She graduated from Argos High School.
On Feb. 11, 1939, in Argos, Ruth and Donald E. Andrews were married. The family moved to their Bremen farm in 1945. Donald passed away, after 70 years of marriage, in May of 2009.

BREMEN âÂ Richard Eugene Smith, 91, of Bremen passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Millerâs Merry Manor, Warsaw. Richard was the son of Everett and Lucille Smith, born Oct. 28, 1921 in Vermillion County. He married Madge Huff Smith on Sept. 23, 1945, in her home near Bremen. She preceded him in death Nov. 7, 2010.

PLYMOUTH âÂ Charles âBillâÂ Baker, 85, of Plymouth, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at 5:55 a.m., at MillerâsÂ Merry Manor, in Plymouth.Â
Bill was born June 8, 1927, in Plymouth, to Samuel and Edna (Switzer) Baker. Bill and Martha A. Roahrig were married Feb. 4, 1950, in Bourbon. Bill worked for the American Breeders Association and also raised his own cattle on his farm. He served on the Marshall County Soil and Conservation Board.

CULVER âÂ Edith Annette Bentley Strait passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 at her winter home in San Benito, Texas one week after her 106th birthday. Edith, a long time resident of Culver, was the only child of George and Annette Marshall Bentley. She was born Oct. 17, 1906 at Walled Lake, Mich. She began her education in a one-room school and attended high school in Pontiac, Mich. In 1928, she graduated with honors from Albion College in Michigan where she met and married her loving husband Walter.

KNOX â Lucille M. Drane, 65, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Survivors include: three brothers, David Drane of Winamac, Donald Whitesell of Florida and Willard Whitesell Jr. of Plymouth; one sister, Violet Nelson of Oregon; and one sister-in-law, Hilda Wacasey of Knox.

She is survived by her husband, Milton; one daughter, Melissa (David) Gates of Kewanna; two sons, Paul (Denise) Scherf of Dallas, Texas and Peter (Rhonda) Scherf of Michigan City; seven grandchildren and one sister, Patricia (Duke) Harms of Illinois.

Betty P. Freese

PLYMOUTH âÂ Betty P. Freese, age 82, a lifetime resident of Plymouth, passed away at 1 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer in the loving care of her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
Betty was born Jan. 7, 1930 in LaPaz, to Darrell Muffley and Edith P. Maxson. She attended LaPaz High School.
Betty worked in the optical field for more than 30 years and organized a union at American Optical in the early â70s. She retired from the profession in 1991.
