School corporations all over the state are publishing their annual performance reports using 2009 data. Under Indiana code, the reports must be made available to local newspapers and published between Jan. 24 and Feb. 14. Today, the Pilot News publishes Plymouth, Argos, John Glenn and LaVille reports in the Classified/Legal section, beginning on page B3.
The reports are for 2009 after the ISTEP (Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus) was moved to the spring for grades 3-8 rather than being given in the fall as in previous years.
Culver's fourth annual Relay for Life, scheduled for April 15, had its official community kick off recently at the depot-train station at Culver's Town Park.
In addition to American Cancer Society representative Trisha Metz, several Culver Academies student organizers of the all-night event -- which raises funds for the American Cancer Society's ongoing fight against the disease -- addressed the audience.
BREMEN â€” With the release of the Indiana Department of Education Annual Performance Report, Bremen Public Schools saw continued improvement in some key areas.
Perhaps most notably, Bremen High School's graduation rate jumped to 92.3 percent, up from 85.6 percent two years ago and 7.2 percent above the state average.
"That's been a big goal as part of the improvement plan at the high school," Bremen Public Schools Superintendent Russ Mikel said. "Unlike some districts, we're at that rate without granting any waivers, so that's a true number for us and we're pretty proud about that."
PLYMOUTH â€” Build it and they will come, isnâ€™t the problem for the Plymouth Youth Soccer programs.
The fact is â€śtheyâ€ť are already here â€” hundreds of young kids ready to play. The league now wants to provide them a set of new fields to play on. Duane Culp and Curt Feece â€“ representing the Plymouth Youth Soccer and Travel Soccer leagues came before the Marshall County Commissioners to outline the groupsâ€™ plans to put together a soccer field complex on the east side of Plymouth.
Culver Academies' Huffinton Concert Series will continue on Tuesday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. with the Cirque Shanghai Bai Xi acrobatic troupe; onstage at Eppley Auditorium on the Academies campus.
PLYMOUTH â€” The Plymouth Park Department continued its idea phase in preparation of its new five-year plan.
A public meeting was held after the Department's normal monthly board meeting Monday evening and the board heard from several citizens with ideas for the plan. Tony Gamble came forward with a project that has been on his mind for several years.
PLYMOUTH â€” The third annual Dancing with the Stars extravaganza was held Saturday night at the Swan Lake Resort, netting more than $68,000 for a local organization.
The event is a major fundraiser for the Marshall County Neighbor-hood Center and the Five-Star program at Lincoln Junior High in Plymouth.
One of the organizers and Neighborhood Center Board President, Chad Barden, opened the program with the announcement that they had pledges of $55,000.
The public could vote for their favorite dance couples at $20 per vote prior to the event.
King and Queen of Plymouth High Schoolâ€™s basketball homecoming were crowned Friday night. The students chose Damon Howe and Jordin Cook as their royalty.
The Culver Lake Fest committee encourages residents to thinkâ€¦summer! Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 15 through 17, the 28th annual â€śCulver Lake Festâ€ť will â€śHonor Our Heroes.â€ť
Mike Overmyer, Lake Fest Committee President, said, â€śWe are very excited about this yearâ€™s theme, and we want to pay tribute to the heroes that live and have worked in our community and just say thanks for their service to our country.â€ť
PLYMOUTH â€” The Plymouth Public Library is hosting a Monopoly Tournament Friday, Feb. 11 for students in grades sixth through twelfth. There is no cost to attend. Prizes will be awarded and pizza, pop and snacks will be served. Register before Thursday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. in person at 201 N. Center St. or online at www.plymouth.lib.in.us.
