County unveils new online information

PLYMOUTH - Marshall County unveiled a brand new group of features available through the county website on Wednesday.

Keeping up with it’s place as one of the innovators in online services in the state of Indiana - members of the Schneider Corporation, makers of Beacon and partners with Pictometry along with Marshall County GIS Coordinator Shawnda Wenino rolled out and demonstrated the brand new functionality for members of the general public in two sessions.

Dinner to raise money for Ancilla College scholarships

PLYMOUTH — On Friday evening, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m., Ancilla College will host its Inaugural Changing Lives Scholarship Dinner.

The new event provides an opportunity for the College to raise money to help fund the scholarships, grants and awards that last year totaled $1 million and were given to 90% of its students.

The event will include a social hour followed by a meal of Chicken Marsala or Beef Sirloin prepared by Chef Zach Lucchese. Chef Lucchese is the head chef at Swan Lake Resort, where the event will take place.

Downtown parking lot to close for repairs

PLYMOUTH - Construction will begin on a downtown parking lot at Garro and Water Street - the former sight of the Bauer Building - and will involve some inconvenience for motorists.

Rieth-Riley Construction has signed a contract for the work and hopes to begin excavation portion of the project on Nov. 1, with parking lot, sidewalk and curb work beginning on Nov. 4.

The company hopes to complete the project within seven working days barring unforeseen weather or other problems.

LaPaz postpones trick-or-treating

LAPAZ — Trick or Treat has been moved to Friday from 5-7 p.m. due to the threat of severe weather in our area on Thursday.

Argos postpones trick or treating

October 30, 2013

ARGOS — Argos is the only town in Marshall County to opt to postpone Halloween Trick or Treating.

Citing possible weather concerns, Argos has set aside 5 -7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 for trick or treating in their community.

All other towns and the City of Plymouth have set 5 -7 tomorrow, Oct. 31 as the officially designated trick or treating times. Knox has a slight variation, from 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Pool committee collects public comments

PLYMOUTH - With a feasibility study underway, the Plymouth Build-A-Pool Committee invited the public to a community meeting at Lincoln Junior High on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

“A project like this has to take time and has to have community involvement,” said Committee Member and Mayor Mark Senter.

The Committee has considered several aspects of a new pool including swim lessons, health and fitness, competitive swimming and physical therapy.

'Beacon Day' for Marshall County Government

PLYMOUTH - Marshall County continues the effort to make government “interactive” and Wednesday county officials are inviting the public to find out about the latest online services available to all county residents.

Marshall County is hosting “Beacon Day” today with public presentations open to all at 11 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. in room 203 of the Marshall County Building.

Found dollars for Plymouth

PLYMOUTH - A gap in communication means more money for the city of Plymouth.

Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi reported to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety that the city had been approved for a grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency similar to other grants that the city has taken advantage of to buy flood plain property.

Surrisi said the city was actually approved for the grant money during the summer but officials had never informed Plymouth government officials of the award.

Documentary puts spotlight on life and death of Knox native, CMA grad

A documentary film with local connections has made national headlines recently.

“Bridegroom” aired Sunday on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN television network and was subsequently released on the online video website Netflix. Many have described the film, which premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, as the most recent rallying point in the ongoing national debate over same-sex marriage.
