PLYMOUTH — Eighty-five young adults in Northwest Indiana had the opportunity this summer to do more than mow a lawn or babysit for some extra cash. They were part of a three-year-old program offered by a partnership between the Indiana Department of Transportation, the Department of Workforce Development, and the Department of Natural Resources to young people from economically-challenged families. The youth earned a little more than $11 per hour to do tasks similar to what a full-time INDOT employee would do in a typical day.
This summer's Culver Kiwanis Club car raffle netted funds for several local non-profits as well as awarding a cash prize to one lucky local winner. Checks were distributed at last Thurdsday's weekly Kiwanis meeting, held at the Culver Public Library.
According to Dick Swennumson of the Club, a total of 1,260 raffle tickets were sold over the course of the summer, netting $21,690.

PLYMOUTH — In an emergency situation a fireman is known to be able to endure great hardship and trial to save lives. One Plymouth fireman is taking that a step — make that a jog — further.
Plymouth fireman John Pasley will be running the full course of this year’s Blueberry Stomp. You likely won’t be able to recognize him by his face because you probably won’t be able to see it. In order to help Riley’s Children’s Hospital, Pasley will run the full 9.3 miles in full fire gear -— including helmet and airpack.
