Memorial run/walk to be held for soldier Saturday

PLYMOUTH — Jason Nemeth, of Plymouth, joined the Army National Guard September, 12, 2006 and was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 151st Infantry.  He was deployed to Afghanistan in August of 2009 for a 10 month tour.

Let it rain!

Finally! Mother Nature has been hiding her rain since June 16, with only one slight, quick scattered shower since. High temps have combined to cause the area to be designated a drought area and there has been a burn ban in effect for weeks. But today, about 10 minutes ago (at this 2:13 p.m. posting), the skies darkened up and she let loose her fury of rain, causing quick puddles and flash flooding in areas around Marshall County. Check back for more weather details as they become available.

Only sanctioned SUP race in Indiana kicks off this weekend on Lake Max

This weekend's Lake Max Challenge Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP) event, Indiana’s only World Paddle Association Sanctioned race, is drawing racers from all over the Midwest and even Hawaii, according to event organizers Ed and Becky Furry of Sail22 in Culver. What’s that mean? Simply, elite pro racers and recreational racers will earn ranking points for the World Paddle Association rankings and Midwest SUP circuit, which allow racers to compete at national and world competitions.

Woman hits police vehicle in attempt to flee

MARSHALL CO. — Marshall County police attempted to stop Renee Craig in her vehicle for a parole violation on U.S. 30 Wednesday afternoon. Craig turned north onto Tulip Road off of U.S. 30 , slid on gravel, left the road and drove over a stop sign. She then attempted to back up and struck a vehicle owned by the Marshall County Sheriff's Department. Craig was injured in the accident and taken to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. Officers found evidence of meth in her vehicle and called the Indiana State Police lab for clean up.

Man arrested for sexual misconduct of minor

MARSHALL CO. — Willie Earl Mackey was arrested Sunday by Marshall County police for sexual misconduct of a minor, a Class C felony. During the investigation, it was discovered that Mackey inappropriately touched a 15 year old female at a residence in Marshall County.

Miss Blueberry pageant is Saturday

ARGOS — This year is the 45th anniversary of the Marshall County Blueberry Festival. The theme is “A World of Possibilities.”
On Saturday, the first official event of the festival will be the crowning of the new 2012 Miss Blueberry, when a total of 16 beautiful young ladies vie for the crown, at the 2012 Miss Blueberry Scholarship Pageant.

Encore season opens with 'Parrots' tonight

PLYMOUTH — Encore Performing Arts will open their season of entertainment this Friday evening with Ohio-based group “Parrots of the Caribbean.”
“(The group) is a salute to Jimmy Buffett,” said Encore director Deborah Gidley. “We had them last year for the first time and it went over really well. It was probably our best show from last season, so we decided to bring them back for this year.”

2 teens killed in bridge crash

PLYMOUTH — Two Plymouth High School students were killed Thursday night in a car crash on 12th Road.
Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger released details on the violent crash that took the life of the boys who were students at PHS. 
Killed instantly were 16-year-old Vincent Cody Poczik, the driver, and his 16-year-old passenger Hunter Brandt, both of Plymouth.
