Second day of Hite trial concludes

The trial of Dale Hite, of Plymouth, began yesterday in Starke County Circuit Court, with Judge Kim Hall presiding.
Hite is on trial for an incident that happened Oct. 16, 2009, when the car he was allegedly driving crashed into some trees traveling 124 mph.
According to court documents, police were at a Grovertown residence investigating the possibility of someone manufacturing methamphetamine. While looking for evidence, a car approached the home and then sped away.
The driver of the vehicle shut the lights off when law enforcement officials began to follow the car.

Culver council sends controversial zoning decision back to plan commission

Concerned residents not only filled the meeting room at Culver’s town hall last Tuesday, but spilled into the hallways and office space as well, as Culver’s town council heard details on possible rezoning from Ralph Booker of the Marshall County Plan Commission.

The controversy grew from what had originally been a county-wide effort to identify parcels of land in which part of the land was legally located in Marshall County and the other part outside town limits, in the county.

PHS students compete at national tourney

PLYMOUTH — Several Plymouth High School Speech and Debate Team members traveled over the Memorial Day holiday weekend to compete in the NCFL (National Catholic Forensic League) tournament in Baltimore, Md. The contest, which attracted students from 775 high schools all across the country making up 2,705 competitors, is a difficult tournament that challenges all competitors through four preliminary rounds. There were 2,114 entries with over 250 per event.

Stewart shows support with visit

LAKEVILLE — Current NASCAR Cup series champ Tony Stewart once again met with his fans to raise funds for Newton Park. All proceeds from the meet-and-greet and question-and-answer session Wednesday night with the NASCAR star will go to the park, and for the Little Hoosier 100, which will be held August 10 and 11 at Newton Park in Lakeville.
