Culver's Lions Club organized its annual Liberty Day educational event at the Culver Community Middle and High Schools last week, according to Lions president Barbara Winters.

PLYMOUTH — It’s that time of year again, when those who struggle with holiday weight gain — or their weight at any time of the year — can take part the Best Loser challenge.
This time around, Best Loser 2012 will run from Jan. 16 to March 21. Registration deadline is Jan. 9, and teams will consist of just two players instead of the traditional four-person teams. Cost is $40 per team, and couples will still be competing for that $1,000 cash prize.
The first weigh-in is Monday, Jan. 16 when the team picture will be taken. Times to be weighed in are from 5 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.

PLYMOUTH — The public is encouraged to attend a meeting on the re-districting of the Plymouth elementary school population Dec. 12.
Dr. Jerome McKibben, McKibben Demographic Research, has been reviewing the data concerning enrollment for the entire Plymouth Schools. He will be giving a final report at the meeting Monday night at Menominee Elementary at 6:30 p.m.

Culver Academies’ annual Christmas Concert, usually held in the afternoon during the school day, will be going prime time this year, as well as featuring guest vocalist Haley Swindal, a 2004 alumna.
“Christmas in Culver: A Musical Holiday Celebration” will be performed Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium on the Academies campus. Admission is $10 -- or the equivalent in canned and non-perishable foods. All proceeds will benefit the Marshall County Food Bank.

PLYMOUTH — The Community Christmas Coalition is seeking donations from the community to help make the holiday season brighter for those in need.
The Coalition was formed by several local organizations and agencies in an effort to reach families or individuals experiencing difficulties and who otherwise might not review assistance for toys/clothes for children and food during the holidays.

PLYMOUTH — This weekend’s Christmas program at Plymouth High School will be quite a production — more than 250 students will be donning wacky costumes and singing or playing fun holiday music compilations as part of the show.
This year, the audience will travel to the North Pole, where Santa and his elves are experiencing a little holiday stress in the last few days before Christmas.
“There are definitely sections that are hysterical,” said band director Bryan Ames. “The entire jazz section is dressed as elves.”

ARGOS — The Argos Public Library was originally begun by three women, members of what was called the Monday Club.
“I think they met on Mondays,” explained current library director Jane Hall.
Hall explained that the three women decided that Argos needed its own library in 1935. A year later, the library opened in a small room near the town clerk’s office. Since this was before taxes funded libraries, the local Boy Scouts went door to door collecting books.
