Van Herk, familiar face in Culver business, explores musical ‘Daydreams’ on new album

If First Farmers Bank manager Chad Van Herk has been noticeably absent a few days recently, he’s had good reason. He’s been in California, in front of a film camera filming a music video in conjunction with his latest -- non-bank-related -- venture: a new album of self-penned and performed tunes.

Oak Road construction 'getting close' to an end

PLYMOUTH — Perhaps one of the biggest traffic hassles in Plymouth, the Oak Road construction project, is nearing a conclusion according to project engineer Gary Fox.
“We’re getting real close now,” said Fox Wednesday, adding that their target completion date for the project is mid-November.
Fox said that the west two lanes of Oak Road are completed, and workers are currently placing sidewalks and doing reconstruction. In the next week, work will begin on the east lanes, pushing traffic onto the newly finished west lanes.

2 die in Michigan Rd crash

PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Coroner’s Office has released the names of the two victims of Tuesday morning’s double-fatality accident at 5A and Michigan Roads north of Plymouth.
Wesley F. Collins, 21, of Plymouth and Conner A. McGee, 18, of Muncie were both killed instantly in a three-vehicle crash. Identification of both victims was withheld during the day pending notification of family members.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, officers responded to the scene at approximately 5:37 a.m. and determined that two separate accidents had occurred.

Closure planned for U.S. 35 bridge demolition

LAPORTE/STARKE COUNTY – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will close U.S. 35 between U.S. 6 and U.S. 30 beginning Tuesday, Aug. 9. Crews will be demolishing the old bridge over the Kankakee River and changing the alignment of the highway to carry traffic over a new bridge.
During the work, traffic will be directed on a 20-mile, marked detour. Northbound traffic will be directed west on U.S. 30, north on Ind. 39 and east on U.S. 6. Southbound traffic will be directed west on U.S. 6, south on Ind. 39 and east on U.S. 30.

Wind farm controversy to be topic of Aug. 13 meeting

A “town hall” style meeting has been announced by a group called Concerned Property Owners of Southern Marshall County, scheduled for Saturday, August 13, starting at 10 a.m. at the Uptown Cinema on Lake Shore Drive in Culver.
