The Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council (LMEC) and the Lake Maxinkuckee Enironmental Fund (LMEF) released a statement last week formally announcing they do not endorse a wind farm project proposed by Florida energy company NextEra. The statement notes the organizations âwould like to clarify and comment upon statements made in NextEra Energy Resourceâs paid advertisement in the Culver Citizen on August 11.â

PLYMOUTH â A local group has decided to step into the battle over the wind in Marshall County.
NextEra Corporationâs proposed âwind farmâ project in Marshall and Fulton Counties has brought a storm of controversy from property owners opposed to wind turbines in the county, especially around Lake Maxinkuckee. While the opposition to the wind projects have made their position clear another group of residents has their own take on the controversy.

PLYMOUTH â The new Consul General of Mexico in Chicago, Eduardo Arnal, visited Plymouth Tuesday afternoon.
Arnal met with Mayor Mark Senter as part of his Indiana tour to discuss some of his goals for the Hispanic population under his jurisdiction (Illinois, Wisconsin, and the northern part of Indiana).
Arnal mentioned immigration issues, saying that a common question he gets is why Mexicans do not enter the U.S. legally.
âThe answer is easy,â said Arnal. âBecause itâs impossible. Not difficultâimpossible.â

PLYMOUTH â As a corporation, the Plymouth Schools have achieved an âAâ rating by the Indiana Department of Education for 2011.
Ratings for the individual schools in the corporation ranged from âAâ in all four elementary buildings to a âDâ at LJH. Riverside Intermediate is ranked as a âBâ school and Plymouth High School as a âCâ school.

BREMEN â âWe have worked long and hard to earn that,â said Bremen school superintendent Russ Mikel Monday, of the schoolâs exemplary rating from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).
This is the first year that Bremen schools have received an A.
The stateâs rating system is based on Public Law 221, an accountability system for grades K-12.
Schools are placed in one of five categories: A (exemplary progress), B (commendable progress), C (academic progress), D (academic watch), or F (academic probation).

PLYMOUTH â Cheyenne McIntire and Dakota Nussel know what they want to be when they grow up.
Both freshman in high school, the two students are not letting their youth get in the way of accomplishing their career goals. In addition to taking special classes at Plymouth High School, McIntire and Nussel are both participating in the Boys and Girls Club program called Career Launch.
The once-a-week class is taught by program director Andrea Schoof, who hopes to add job shadowing to the program for the first time this year.

The Marshall County Coronerâs Office investigated a fatal truck accident Friday on U.S. 31 south of Argos, where 61-year-old Jerome D. Seward of South Bend was pronounced dead.

The fourth annual Lake Maxinkuckee Film Festival, âA Gift of Warmth,â will feature a grand assortment of âfabulous â50sâ films, kicking off with a gala sponsorsâ evening Friday, September 2. As mentioned in last weekâs edition of this newspaper, this yearâs sponsorâs evening will have a âtwistâ: six film shorts created and produced by students in Purdue Universityâs Film and Video Studies department. Each short, says festival committee chairman Gary Shaffer, is five to eight minutes long, and students act in, direct, and produced the films.

LAKEVILLE â The Union-North United School Corporation will be seeking a new superintendent within the next few weeks to replace the current superintendent, Dr. Terry Barker.
Although the official announcement by the School City of Mishawaka has not been released, Barker began the task of informing Union-North School board members Friday afternoon that he is heading to the Mishawaka top leadership job.
He also met with the administration teams of the LaVille Schools after the students were released Friday.
Dr. Barker came to the LaVille Schools in July of 2009.
ARGOS â The driver of a semi truck died Friday after going off the road into an embankment on US 31 south of S.R. 10, according to Marshall County coroner Bill Clevenger.
Clevenger is currently investigating the cause of death and the 61-year-old driver's name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The truck ran off the road around 11 a.m. Argos Police responded to the crash with additional assistance from Marshall County Police.
