Cafe Max owner Susie Mahler wants to assure customers the recent addition of a bar at the longstanding Culver institution is no cause for alarm.
âNo, itâs not getting changed into a âhoochie bar,ââ she says with a smile. âThere will be no pole dancers, male or female!â
She points out Cafe Max has served beer for about 10 years and had a three-way liquor license for a year and a half. She says the bar, which was installed over two days last week during which the restaurant was closed, is largely about increasing night dining to the establishment.

PLYMOUTH â The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce is bringing back an old city favorite to the downtown.
Once again downtown merchants will be hosting the âPlymouth Rock of Gold.â The promotion that was a downtown favorite in the â60s, â70s and â80s, returns with more deals and prizes just like the first go around.
âLots of people who grew up in Plymouth remember the Rock of Gold,â said Chamber of Commerce Board member Anna Corbett. âWe have a whole new generation now that will get to know it.â

PLYMOUTH â Plymouth Mayor incumbent Mark Senter (R) will run unopposed until the November election, when the winner of Tony Gamble and Jim Vinall will run for the office.
Vinall feels that infrastructure, housing, and planning for the future are things that Vinall says would be keys in his administration.

PLYMOUTH â Three men will vie for the chance to run to be the Mayor of Plymouth in the coming local election. Incumbent Republican Mark Senter will face the winner of Tony Gamble and Jim Vinall, who will square off for the Democratic Party spot for the office.
Gamble has run in what he calls an âauthentic manner.â
âI feel it is important that they (Plymouth citizens) know and understand me for the person that I am,â he said. âI will not campaign with a big budget, but rather with hard work, and a big heart.â

One of the hot topics of discussion in the community the past few days is the closing of MPI. Knox Mayor Rick Chambers heard about the rumor and decided to take steps to ease peopleâs minds.
âIn an effort to dispel rumors that I am going to close MPI, let me say this is completely false. The City of Knox is in the business of expanding industry, not closing it,â Chambers said.

SAVANNAH, GA â Music fans will be cheering some of the worldâs top acts again this year as part of the Vanâs Warped Tour that will criss cross the country through June, July and August.
Along with some of the hottest acts in music today â Paramore, Gym Class Heroes, Jackâs Mannequin, and Simple Plan to name just a few â will be a band from Savannah, Ga. called Passafire, that just happens to feature two names that will be very familiar to Plymouth residents.
PLYMOUTH â The Marshall County Council on Aging is hosting the AARP Driver Safety Program at the Life Enrichment Center Thursday, May 19. The class will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and box lunches will be available for purchase to those who RSVP. Although the program is geared toward drivers 50 and older, all ages of drivers are encouraged to attend. In this course, attendees will learn:
âąÂ Defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road
âą How to deal with aggressive drivers
LAPAZ â Women's Connection will host "Hoping for Spring" Wednesday, May 4 at 11:30 a.m. at Occasion's Banquet Hall, LaPaz. The meal and presentations are included in the $8.50 cost. Speakers include Karen Ferguson and Mary Brown, and musical guests are Ali Dimmitt and Amber Jenney, Argos music students.

PLYMOUTH â The Marshall County Historical Society is holding its 40th annual dinner Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at Christos Banquet Center. Itâs no secret Culver is a unique community with a diverse and often well-traveled population, and fitness trainer Shaina Lampton thinks it deserves a fitness facility to accommodate its character.
Thatâs why sheâs opening Bottom Line Training Company at 232 South Main Street in Culver, in the Main Street Centre (though locally itâs often referred to simply as the Collins Building). The business will kick off with an open house May 7 from 4 to 7 p.m., with an official opening May 9.
