Hotel Culver planned for this summer

Culver should see a much-needed addition to its overnight accommodation offerings this summer, with Hotel Culver, located at 18571 State Road 10 (just west of the intersection of State Roads 10 and 17), underway.
This according to John Zehner, who has been involved in several Culver area businesses in recent years.
The five-room hotel will precede a second, 16-room venture located in two buildings on the same property: those formerly occupied by the 10 Spot and a motorcycle shop.

BPA win carries on tradition of Schwartz, program

Students and faculty involved in Culver Community High School’s Business Professionals of America have not only carried on a remarkable tradition of excellence by virtue of their success at a recent state-level competition, they’re also carrying on the legacy of the recently-deceased, well-loved Culver teacher who helped build the program to what it is, Mike Schwartz.
Twenty-two CCHS students competed in Indianapolis February 27 through March 1 at BPA’s annual state competition.

Help needed for Ag Day and Taste of Marshall County

PLYMOUTH — Ag Day is set for Thursday, March 31 at Centennial Park. Featured speakers and animals will include: Ducks, electric safety, swine, sheep, farm trivia, dairy, beef, conservation of natural resources, crops, farm safety, and pizza snack/nutrition. Help is needed during the day so volunteers would be appreciated to educate the more than 600 third graders and others learn about modern agriculture.

Honoring Culver's state champion

Indiana state heavyweight wrestling champion Jeremiah Harvey, a student at Culver Community High School, was honored twice recently in Culver thanks to the efforts of Culver’s VFW Post 6919.

Shamrock Homes announces closure

PLYMOUTH — Official word was received Wednesday that a Plymouth manufacturer has shut their doors. After nearly 42 years in business, Shamrock Homes is calling it quits.
The business was first opened by Pat and Kay Flynn in 1969 and then transferred to their children Dan, Tom, Mike and Pat in the 1980s. Both Tom and Dan were currently running the company. Pat kept his interest in the company, but left for another position in July, 2009. Mike passed away in March of last year.

Cleveland honored by Plymouth PD, Council

PLYMOUTH — One of Plymouth’s finest was recognized for his service by the Plymouth Common Council Monday night — but it was a bittersweet moment for all.
“I suppose it’s nice to be recognized, but the outcome was certainly not what you would want,” said Plymouth Police Sergeant Gary Cleveland, who was honored by a commendation by Plymouth Chief of Police Jim Cox and by a proclamation by Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter.

HorseSaddleShop Outlet opens March 26

BREMEN — The HorseSaddleShop Outlet, located at 1205 W. Plymouth St. between Family Dollar and Curves, will host its grand opening March 26. The outlet specializes in used saddles, western wear, horse tack and western décor. The grand opening will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, free refreshments, giveaways and special sales prices.

The HorseSaddleShop Outlet is an extension of The Internet business began in 2000 and has become one of the top western sites on the web. The outlet strives to bring the benefits of a big store into a small town. 

Culver Young Farmers spearhead county-wide food drive this weekend

Culver Young Farmers are coordinating a food drive to help those in the community in need of help to feed their families.
In recent years the Culver Young Farmers have supported the food pantries of Culver, Argos, Mentone, and Plymouth. But local farm woman Kaye Schultz of Culver had another vision. She proposed that her chapter spearhead a county-wide food drive, utilizing the Ag Day Committee, members of 4-H and FFA, the Marshall County Farm Bureau and Beacon Credit Union.

Cemetery cleanup deadline March 28

March 15, 2011

PLYMOUTH — To facilitate spring cleaning at Oakhill Cemetery, flowers and winter ornaments should be removed from grave sites by Monday, March 28. Residents are asked to pick up any arrangements or ornaments they wish to keep before that date. Clean up will run from March 28 to April 1. Anything left will be thrown away during this time.
