INDIANAPOLIS â Blood donors can honor the enormous contributions African Americans have made to modern-day blood services by coming to give blood this February during Black History Month.Â
PLYMOUTH â The Plymouth Industrial Development Corporation unveiled new officers and details on their emphasis for the coming year at their annual meeting at Christo's Banquet Center.

PLYMOUTH â Her career has been backstage at Plymouth High School, but she will be one of several taking center stage Saturday, Feb. 5 as part of the Neighborhood Centerâs fundraiser âDancing With the Starsâ at Swan Lake Resort.
Jane Faulstich and her partner Patrick Pendexter will try to win the title by gaining your votes and contributions for the center. Faulstich â who teaches theatre at Plymouth High School â is drawing on her âvastâ experience as a dancer for a good cause.

ARGOS â A fire ripped through a residence on Michigan Street in Argos Tuesday night.
Neighbors of Cynthia Salyers alerted her and her family to the fire in their home before Argos firemen were called to the scene about 8:16 p.m.
âThe family was watching TV, and the neighbors alerted them to the fire,â said Argos Fire Chief Mark Dean. âIt was in the attic and they had about 12 inches of insulation in there. They had no idea there was a fire.â
Dean said that the fire was mostly confined to the ceiling and the attic of the home.

PLYMOUTH â Itâs a new year and that means a new lineup of entertainment from Encore Performing Arts.
It promises to be an exciting and groundbreaking year for Encore as they expand the successful âDinner and Musicâ series to include two shows this year and also work in conjunction with two other local agencies to bring acts in for the first time as well as unveiling a new website for the organization.

PLYMOUTH â Indiana could be joining other areas around the United States and the world if proposed legislation concerning charging for plastic bags in retail stores makes its way through the Indiana legislative process.
Representative Shelli VanDen Burgh of Crown Point (D-District 19) authored House Bill 1521 that was read on Jan. 20, and then referred to the Committee on Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development.

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels made a stop in Culver Wednesday evening, sampling the fare at the Corndance Cafe, and meeting and greeting people at the Culver-Oregon Davis basketball game (which Culver won 89 to 45). Besides Daniels' presence, it was a big night in Culver for the Elliott family. Young Trent, a player on the team, scored 33 points during the game, which dad Kyle Elliott coached. Across town at the same time, meanwhile, Kyle's father John Elliott was awarded Citizen of the Year by Culver's Lions Club for his generosity and caring in the community.

BOURBON â The Bourbon Public Library began a new program geared to promote reading at the earliest age. â1,000 Books Before Kindergartenâ is for children birth through preschool and anyone can read to the child, any book (even the same book repeatedly) or attend Story Time at the library Thursdays from 2 to 2:45 p.m.
"Dancing" today may evoke images ranging from celebrities on television competitions to little more than flapping arms and legs in place, but time was when dances at Culver were affaris to be remembered, and social events to which young ladies from Indianapolis to South Bend dreamed of being invited.
January 24th
Members of Culver's volunteer fire department braved the frigid temperatures Saturday morning as they test-drove a hovercraft privately owned by Dave Rayburn of Goshen. The craft, which would be custom-made for the department according to rescue and safety standards, would be used primarily for ice rescues if purchased. Funding for the purchase would come from both the department's town-based budget and the Union Township budget. Township Trustee Jerry Greason -- as well as Township board member Bill Githens -- was on hand to observe.
