Driver strikes garage following seizure

PLYMOUTH – A garage at 13129 Nutmeg Ridge Drive, Plymouth was damaged after a driver struck the structure while having a seizure.
The Marshall County Police Department reported that Holly L. Buckingham, 25, of Argos apparently had a seizure while attempting to back out of a driveway across the street. The vehicle then crossed the road and struck the attached garage, damaging the door and two vehicles parked inside the garage.
Neither Buckingham nor her three small children, who were passengers in the vehicle, were injured. The residents were not home at the time of the collision.

Tennessee woman wrecks, arrested

PLYMOUTH – A Tennessee woman has been arrested for resisting law enforcement, operating while intoxicated, and operating a vehicle with a BAC of .15 percent or more after wrecking while trying to flea from authorities Friday night.

TV stolen from home

October 26, 2011

PLYMOUTH – The Marshall County Police Department is investigating the theft of a television from a home in the 18000 block of 5th Road early Sunday afternoon.
The TV is described as a 37- to 42-inch LCD HD Sanyo. The homeowner told the MCPD that the only time the house was unoccupied was between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

Halloween safety tips

Halloween may be a fun holiday for children, but for parents the holiday can be a little tricky. To help parents and children have a safe and enjoyable Halloween, the Indiana State Police offers the following safety tips:
The costume - keep costumes short to prevent trips and falls.
Try make-up instead of a mask. Masks often obstruct a child's vision, which makes tasks like crossing the street and going up and down stairs dangerous.
Make sure children wear light colors or put reflective tape on their costumes.

MCCF awards second round of grants

PLYMOUTH — The Grants Committee of the Marshall County Community Foundation (MCCF) awarded the second round of General Endowment Fund Grants for 2011 during a press conference held Oct. 13 in Plymouth. 

The general endowment of the Marshall County Community Foundation now exceeds four million dollars. This enables the Foundation to award grants in excess of $100,000 on an annual basis. During the fall 2011 grant round, $46,804 was awarded to the following eleven organizations in Marshall County:

• Argos Dollars for Scholars—Underwrite Purdue Glee Club Performance, $5,300.00

Preschool holds fundraiser for education

PLYMOUTH — Calvary Lutheran Preschool in Plymouth held its annual garage sale Thursday and Friday, a major fundraiser according to director Diane Eveland.
Eveland explained that since many of the 55 children in the preschool get scholarships, tuition no longer covers all of the daycare’s costs. The money raised from the two-day sale will go to buy learning materials for the preschool.
“We couldn’t do it without the parents,” said Eveland gratefully, adding that parents of the preschool children had come in all week to help set up for the sale.

City transfers questioned by candidates

PLYMOUTH — On Monday night, the Plymouth Common Council unanimously approved transferring $500,000 from the City’s General Fund to the Rainy Day Fund. With the latest transfer, the Rainy Day Fund now sits at just under $5.5 million.
City Attorney Nelson Chipman explained that whenever the purposes of a tax levy have been met, any unencumbered balance remaining can be placed in the General Fund or the Rainy Day Fund.
Chipman said the transfer of funds could be done any time during the fiscal year and the city could have made the transfer in November.
