NAPPANEE — Eileen Sheets, 103, died Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2:55 p.m. at LuAnn Nursing Home in Nappanee.
Surviving are daughters, Norma (John) Personett, Nappanee, Rosamae (Jerry) Davenport, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and sons, George (Bonnie) Sheets, Nappanee, and Wendell (Anita) Sheets, Bourbon; 17 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

ROCHESTER — Joe L. Cooley, 61, died of natural causes at his home in Rochester at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, Troy Allen (Sherri) Cooley, Kennewick, Wash, John E. (Tonya) Cooley, Vucelik, Germany and Terry Joe Cooley, Michigan City; seven grandchildren; sister, JoAnn (Bill) Martin, Bourbon; brothers, Jack Howard, Bremen and Dan (Raelene), Syracuse; and father- and mother-in-law, Wilbur and Donna Cowger.

PLYMOUTH — Alvin L. “Pete” Westfall, 78, died at 10:38 p.m. in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis, Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012.
Pete was born in Reynolds, March 25, 1933. He was the son of Errol J. and Louise (Lawyer) Westfall.
He graduated from Reynolds High School with the class of 1951 and then served in the Indiana National Guard.
June 7, 1953, in Kokomo, Pete and Phyllis Jo Davis were married. The couple has made Plymouth their home since 1968.

PLYMOUTH — Thomas E. Nunley, 50, a resident of Plymouth for the past six years, died of natural causes at 8:59 p.m. in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012.
Tom was born Nov. 30, 1961, in London, KY. He was the son of James G. and Sarah E. (Young) Nunley, his mother survives living in London.
He graduated from John Glenn High School with the class of 1979 where he played football and enjoyed all sports.
Tom enlisted in the United States Navy and served for six years.

PLYMOUTH — James A. Caldwell, 60, of 10687 10th Road, Plymouth, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at 11:26 p.m., at his home.
Jim was born Aug. 3, 1951, in Gary, to Robert and Phyllis (Luse) Caldwell. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Loretta Hummel and James Caldwell were united in marriage May 27, 1972, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, in Plymouth.

South Gateway bid proposals opened

PLYMOUTH — City Attorney Nelson Chipman opened 13 letters of interest from firms seeking work concerning the South Gateway Project for the City at a meeting this week. Requests for proposals for construction engineering for the project had been advertised.

Wrestling state series opens this weekend in last year of team tournament

PLYMOUTH — It’s the last chance for squads around the state to vie for a team title as the 74th Annual IHSAA Wrestling State Tournament Series opens this weekend.
This year’s tournament marks the last year for the team state series after the IHSAA’s executive committee voted unanimously in November to drop it in lieu of an exclusively individual tournament beginning in 2012-13.

Culver snaps skid at OD
Trent Elliott had his first double figure outing in four games, and the Culver Cavaliers snapped a three-game skid while handing host Oregon-Davis a 69-40 loss on the road at The Den Wednesday.
Elliott knocked down four 3s on his way to a game-high 22 points, his first double digit production since Culver’s last win at Westville Jan. 11.

Comeback kid: Plymouth’s Ed Johnson fights to keep his MMA dreams alive

PLYMOUTH — Ed Johnson found Mixed Martial Arts as a way to cope with the pain of his father’s loss.
The sport that started as an outlet quickly became a passion, but when he awoke one morning to discover two herniated lumbar discs 10 months ago, he thought he might have to give up that passion forever.
Fortunately for Johnson, that’s not the case.
After a tough and uncertain rehabilitation, the 20-year-old Plymouth High School graduate will make his return to the cage April 7 in a 155-pound bout at the Century Center.

Lady Pilgrims tally season-highs in 3rd straight win

PLYMOUTH — When your hard work doesn’t seem to be paying off, it can be tough to keep the faith. Fortunately for the Lady Pilgrims, their efforts are finally yielding some results.
Plymouth put four players in double figures for the second time in two weeks en route to a season-high points total, and the Pilgrims rallied past visiting South Bend Clay 53-43 for their third straight win at home at The Rock Tuesday.
