IHSAA tennis, soccer tournament pairings set

INDIANAPOLIS — The IHSAA has announced the tournament pairings and times for the 45th Annual Boys State Tennis Tournament and the pairings for the first two-class state soccer tournaments for both boys and girls with the times to be determined by the host schools later this week.
A record-high field of 292 boys teams and 253 girls teams are entered as the 18th Annual IHSAA Soccer State Tournaments are set to begin next Monday and run through next Saturday, Oct. 8, while 303 teams around the state will begin vying for the crown in the boys tennis series starting this Wednesday.

LaVille rallies past Adams
LaVille rallied back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to beat visiting Adams 2-1 at home at Newton Park Monday.
Nina Zeiger scored the equalizer on a penalty kick in the 45th minute, and Jesse Feitz’s solo goal in the 60th minute proved to be the golden goal for the Lady Lancers.
Abbie McBride made six saves in goal to preserve the win for LaVille.

Dems attend annual Jefferson Jackson dinner

PLYMOUTH — The annual Jefferson Jackson Democratic Dinner held Sunday night featured three speakers.
Speaking at the event were Brendan Mullen, 2nd Congressional District Democratic Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives; Nancy Dembowski, currently serving in the Indiana State House of Representatives; and Pete Buttigieg, Democratic candidate for Mayor of South Bend.
Mullen said, “What is needed is family, fellowship, hard work and service.”

Rainy ride raises funds for program

PLYMOUTH — Chilly weather complete with a downpour of rain on Saturday didn’t keep 60 motorcycle riders from participating in the 4th Annual Ride for “Shop with a Cop-Christmas for Kids.”
The ride started at Young Amphitheatre in Plymouth and took riders to Rochester, Bass Lake and then back to the American Legion hall in Plymouth. Following the ride, a meal and auction were held as well.
One of the organizers, Jeff Stewart said, “We can’t thank the community enough for their support in monetary and gift donations.”

Triplet saw nearly 5 decades of change in Culver's pharmacies

Culver resident Jean Triplet may represent the last local link to the bygone days of small-town pharmacies, so well remembered by many here. After 49 years in the business, Triplet has retired from CVS Pharmacy in Culver, though her earliest years behind the drug-store counter were at beloved local pharmacy Mr. T's.

Area golfers close seasons at rainy East Noble Regional

KENDALLVILLE — A trio of area golfers finished out their seasons as the weather nearly derailed the East Noble Girls Golf Regional Saturday.
Plymouth’s Emily Berger shot a 98, while Triton’s Sydney Gochenour carded a 97, and Culver Girls Academy’s Mackenzie Toth shot a 99 in the persistent drizzle at Noble Hawk.
Led by Heidi Morganthaler’s round of 78, NorthWood found itself in contention to advance with a 368 as lightning delayed the regional tilt for several hours, and darkness eventually forced the suspension of play with several teams set to resume their rounds today.

Rockies drop NLC contest with Northridge, 5-1

PLYMOUTH — A penalty kick on a controversial call left Plymouth down two goals and chasing visiting Northridge, and the Rockies lost an eventual 5-1 Northern Lakes Conference decision to the Raiders at Kindt Soccerplex Saturday.
Plymouth went into the half trailing 1-0 after Steven Hooley scored on a Cameron Miller assist in the game’s 15th minute, but it was Miller’s pk in the 43rd minute that put Plymouth into press mode, and Northridge capitalized with two more goals during an eight-minute span between the game’s 50th and 58th minutes to put the game out of reach.

SYRACUSE — After running off three straight wins in Weeks 2 through 4, the Rockies seem to be bottoming out.
Plymouth gave up two scores little more than three minutes in and gained just 50 total offensive yards in the second half en route to their second straight Northern Lakes Conference defeat, 39-12 on the road at Wawasee Friday.
