Plymouth’s Mercer, Triton’s Yeo picked for Michiana All-Star game

MISHAWAKA — The 2012 Michiana McDonald’s High School All-Star rosters were announced Thursday in preparation for the event taking place Monday at 7 p.m. on the campus of Bethel College.
Plymouth sophomore center Mack Mercer, Triton junior forward Clay Yeo, and North Judson seniors John Eckert and Winston Yergler have all been selected to play in the all-star game.

Coroner releases details of inmate's death

PLYMOUTH — Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger released information obtained from the final autopsy report issued regarding the death of Georgina M. Onofre, a 35-year-old inmate of the Marshall County Jail, on the morning of Sept. 19, 2011.
Onofre was being held as an inmate at the time of her death and died shortly after transfer to the Emergency Department of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center/Plymouth.

City making progress on dilapidated properties

PLYMOUTH — It's apparent the city of Plymouth means business.
Just months into the Operation Bright Spot campaign significant progress towards pushing properties in the city towards their full potential is evident. Mayor Mark Senter's administration targeted certain properties around the city that had become problems and while more remains to be done, there is movement.

PHS Winter Performance Ensemble advances to state finals

PLYMOUTH — In a season that has already seen much success, the Plymouth High School Winter Performance Ensemble (drumline and color guard) advanced to the Indiana Percussion Association’s indoor drumline state finals Saturday. After recently being promoted from Class 2A to Class A by the IPA Board of Directors, the Plymouth band students again set new records for the group by placing near the top of the field of nearly thirty schools competing for a chance to perform at the state finals.

'Annie Get Your Gun' is this weekend at BHS

BREMEN — After performing "Grease" as last year's musical, Bremen High School students experienced a challenge this year with "Annie Get Your Gun," a lesser-known show. However, choir director Kathy Overmyer was confident that her students could pull off the colorful performance.
"We have a lot of really strong seniors this year, and this show lends itself to strong, funny characters," said Overmyer. "I felt that we had the cast to make it work this year."

PLYMOUTH — Victor E. Stockman, 84, a resident of Hope Boulevard in Plymouth, died at 12:59 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2012 in Pilgrim Manor Care Center.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; a daughter; Vickie L. (Ken) Knipp of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Wayne A. (Becky) Stockman of Plymouth, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

PLYMOUTH — Stephen Douglas Slater, 63, a Mill Pond, Plymouth resident, died March 10, 2012 at his residence of natural causes.
He is survived by his wife Sherry A. (Hunley) Slater; and his father-in-law, Frederick R. Nunley of Plymouth.
Services will be held Friday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth where visitation is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. prior to services.

CULVER — James A. Baker, 59, of Culver passed away at 11:26 p.m. March 17, 2012 at the Catherine Kasper Life Center in Donaldson.
James was born to Charles and Beatrice (Adams) Baker April 15, 1952 in Plymouth. He was a 1970 graduate of Culver High School. After graduation he joined the National Guard. He loved to travel anywhere but especially enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii. Family trips were his favorite.

PLYMOUTH — Travis Jon Childress, 23, a Plymouth resident, formerly of Michigan City, passed away at 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
The son of Randal Childress and Judith Miller Yates. Travis was born Dec. 6, 1988 in Michigan City. He had attended LaVille High School.
A construction worker, Travis liked to hunt, draw and play guitar.
