Argos kindergarten roundup is today

ARGOS — Kindergarten Roundup for Argos Elementary School will be in the elementary gym between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The school will again be offering full-day kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year. For a child to be eligible for kindergarten he/she must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2012.

Avery may assist with southern Ind. disaster relief

PLYMOUTH — Marshall County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) director Clyde Avery is prepared to assist with southern Indiana disaster relief, if needed.
Avery mentioned in the county commissioners meeting Monday that he had received a call from a district task force Saturday, warning him that he might be deployed to the lower part of the state following the tornados that wrecked havoc on several towns in the area.

Lady Chargers volleyball signs Castle’s Mieka Wagner

NEWBURGH — The Ancilla College volleyball team has improved its upcoming recruiting class with the addition of Mieka Wagner from Castle High School. The dynamic volleyball player will join the Chargers as a defensive specialist and an outside hitter starting in the 2012-13 season.
“Coach Pickerell and I noticed Mieka within minutes of arriving at the Team Indiana Showcase in early December,” said Ancilla coach Lana Singleton. “This kid is a sparkplug. She jumps well, hustles and has a great, bubbly personality. She will be a great addition to our Lady Charger volleyball program.”

Ball State ends season, Davis ends college career
The Ball State men’s basketball team saw its 2011-12 season come to an end as the ninth-seeded Cardinals dropped a 69-63 contest against eighth-seeded Western Michigan Monday night in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at University Arena.
The loss ends the Cardinals’ season at 15-15 on the year while the Broncos advance to Cleveland for the second round.
Plymouth product Randy Davis knocked down 6 of 6 free throws and dished out four assists in the loss.

Changes in writing offerings for Plymouth schools

PLYMOUTH — The Curriculum Committee of the Plymouth Schools met last week to review changes in the writing offerings and methods that will be used throughout the corporation.
Forty-five states and the District of Columbia have adopted the Common Core Standards and Indiana schools have three years to adopt the new changes.

ALS Association lauds local 6th grader, educates about disease

The Culver community's remarkable rallying around the Reinhold family in recent months was largely the result of the efforts of Culver Elementary 6th grader Reilly Reinhold's initial fund-raising project for the ALS Association of Indianapolis last fall. Last week, representatives of that organization made the trek from Indianapolis to Culver to surprise Reilly with recognition of, and appreciation for her efforts.

Frazier, 79, died Friday, March 2, 2012 at his home.  Survivors include three sons, Gene (Terri) Frazier of North Judson, Ray (Goldie) Frazier of Grovertown and Ollie (Kathy) Frazier of Walkerton; two daughters, Linda (Leonard) Fugate of Knox and Brenda (David) Jesuit of Grovertown; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

SHELBYVILLE — Mary C. Rinehart, 88, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born May 11, 1923, in Plymouth, she was the daughter of Samuel and Edna (Switzer) Baker.  She married Richard W. “Dick” Rinehart Aug. 15, 1950, and he preceded her in death Jan. 27, 2002.
