Papa’s to celebrate anniversary as Culver's, county's longest-running restaurant

Some might think it odd that Culver's longest-running restaurant (and possibly the longest-running in Marshall County) is celebrating its 36th anniversary this summer -- after all, why not 35, last year? Or wait until 40?

But Brian McCormack, co-founder and owner of Papa's in Culver thinks making the restaurant’s 36th a big bash fits the "unconventional" identity of the longtime local fa­vorite, which opened its doors this week (May 16) in 1976.

"We did an after-prom pizza party," he says of the res­taurant's very first day. "That was our first run at it."

Plymouth wins 12th straight sectional

BREMEN — Champion-ships never get old, no matter how many you’ve won.
The Lady Pilgrims beat host Bremen in three flights at DeSantis Courts Friday to win the Plymouth girls tennis program a 12th straight sectional title.
Plymouth now advances to play the winner of the Warsaw Sectional at the Culver Girls Academy Regional next Tuesday, while host CGA takes on the Peru Sectional winner in the other semifinal, with the finals slated for Wednesday.

Upperclassmen lead Pilgrims in Senior Night win vs Glenn

PLYMOUTH — Seventeen at-bats, eight runs, eight hits, eight runs batted in, five singles, two doubles and a home run.
That was the combined stat line for Plymouth’s six senior baseball players in their narrow 10-9 win against John Glenn on Senior Night Friday.
“The upperclassmen stepped up when we needed to tonight,” said Plymouth senior Connor Flynn. “We have faced some adversity this season and with adversity comes opportunity, and we want to use that to lead our team into the sectionals.”

CGA wins regional
Culver Girls Academy won the Northern Indiana Girls Lacrosse Regional Friday with a 10-6 victory over visiting South Bend St. Joseph’s.
The Lady Eagles now advance to the state tournament’s final four.
Olivia Rabbitt notched a hat trick with three goals, while Annie Morches and Shawna Lesperance both scored two. Melissa Paluch and Saralena Barry also scored for CGA, while Kelsie Carr finished with a pair of assists, and Helen Hansen recorded 10 saves.

Town manager announced, financial shortfall discussed at Culver council mtg

With much of last Tuesday's Culver town council meeting occupied with discussion of tax draw matters -- continued from the previous meeting -- another significant news item nearly escaped mention. Council vice president Ginny Munroe, presiding in the stead of president Sally Ricciardi, who Munroe earlier announced was resting at home after a hospital stint, said the council offered David Schoeff the position of Culver town manager, a position he has formally accepted since that meeting took place.

10-year plan for city improvement to be revamped

PLYMOUTH — Mayor Mark Senter will be sitting down to re-do the city’s 10-year comprehensive plan May 31 with Ratio Architects, the company that helped create the plan about eight years ago.

Bremen, Glenn, LaVille athletes qualify for regionals
Bremen scored 33 points to finish seventh followed by John Glenn and LaVille in eighth and ninth with 23 and 20 points, respectively at the Penn Boys Track and Field Sectional Thursday.
The host Kingsmen won the meet with a score of 154 1/2.
