SOUTH BEND â Virginia May (Bachtel) Miller, passed away peacefully, Feb. 22, 2011, six days before her 91st birthday, at home with her daughter, son-in-law, and her faithful K-9 companion Buddy.
She was born Feb. 28, 1920, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Vernon O. and Edith (Dawson) Bachtel. She is remembered for her independence, dignity and desire to succeed. She strove to pass these characteristics on to her children.Â

ROCHESTER â Patricia âPatâ I. Harris, 64, of Rochester, died at 7:20 p.m. March 6, 2011 at her residence, following a three-month illness.
CULVER â Winning championships is often a matter of peaking at the right time.
Culver Military Academy extended its win streak to eight games with its Sectional 19 championship victory over St. Josephâs Saturday, and while the Eagles have played some solid basketball and even shown occasional spurts of brilliance in that stretch, head coach Mark Galloway believes he still hasnât seen his teamâs best game yet.

PLYMOUTH â Marshall County Extension Office is holding an evening session on invasive insect and plants impacting area woodlands and properties. The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug is a new insect pest here in Marshall County that feeds on plants during the summer and over winters in homes. Bob Yoder, Marshall County Extension Educator will lead a discussion on invasive pests at the Plymouth Public Library in the Laramore Room Tuesday evening, March 15. The program will start at 6:30 p.m.
WALKERTON â The John Glenn Theatre Company will close out the 2010-11 school year with the uplifting musical, "Godspell." Performances will be Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m. Reserved seating is now available by contacting John Glenn High School. All tickets are $7. Any unreserved seats will be sold before each performance.

PLYMOUTH â Even though state government agencies are eligible to receive disaster help in the form of reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) it appears that none will be headed to Marshall County after last monthâs blizzard.

PLYMOUTH â Seventeen Plymouth teachers joined hundreds of other teachers from around the state March 5 at a rally held in Indianapolis aimed at showing support for public schools.
Co-President of the PEA (Plymouth Education Association) Laura Kruyer was among those attending the rally.
âAs co-president of the PEA, I am proud of how our teachers have come together to deal with ever-increasing demands and budget crunches,â Kruyer said. âTeachers and administrators are working together to improve test scores and accountability.â Â

BOURBON â Triton faces a historically tough field as the regional round of the 101st Annual IHSAA Boys State Basketball Tournament convenes this weekend.
The Trojans (20-3) take on Pioneer (15-9) in the afternoon game following the tournament opener between Morgan Township (19-4) and Fort Wayne Canterbury (17-4) with the championship slated for 7:30 p.m. EST.
If recent history is any indicator, the ultimate prize could be even bigger than a regional title. The past four champions eventually went on to the Class A state finals, where three of the four claimed state supremacy.

The Culver-Union Township Public Library is on its way to accepting credit card payments for overdue fines, damages, and other fees patrons may incur, following a vote February 15 at the library boardâs regular monthly meeting.
