LAKEVILLE â Distance running has taken Elaine Schmeltz places.
Three cross country regionals, three track regionals, three mission trips all over the Western Hemisphere.
Next fall, cross country will take Schmeltz to Taylor University in Upland, where the LaVille senior has signed on to run with the Lady Trojans cross country and track teams.
Unquestionably there was anger and sadness, but when the Culver Community School board’s vote arrived Monday night to close Monterey Elementary School, few were likely surprised.

A grateful Culver Town Council bid a fond farewell to Town Manager Michael Doss last week, as he prepared to leave Culver for his native West Virginia immediately following the April 26 meeting.
Doss told the Council and audience, âI canât say how much this town has meant to me over the last couple of years, personally and professionally.â
Noting Culver residents and Council members were âvery welcoming to meâ when he first arrived in Culver, Doss praised the Council and Town Clerk, among others.

PLYMOUTH â Larry Larkin Condon, 71, of Plymouth died May 7, 2011 at his residence of natural causes.
He is survived by three daughters, Carleen Ann Condon of Plymouth, Kelly Lynn Kring of Plymouth, and Kim Sue Rosinski of Grovertown; sister, Marry Summers of Dunlap; brother, Robert Condon of Kentucky; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no services.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth is in charge of arrangements.

PLYMOUTH â The Plymouth Baseball Tournament was called for the first time in recent memory due to the unrelenting rain, but not before everyone in the four-team field got a game in.
Defending Class 4A champion and current No. 5-ranked Carroll beat No. 4 Penn 8-4 in a match-up of top-five teams in the opener at Bill Nixon Field, while Plymouth lost 14-8 to Crown Point in the nightcap, postponed more than six hours past its originally scheduled start time.

from Culver Community High School and their families to treat them to a catered meal and celebrate their accomplishments by way of the Club's annual senior awards banquet, held last Wednesday, April 27 in the CCHS cafeteria.
After a well-received round of songs from the school's jazz choir, accompanied by pianist Ann Bigley and directed by Diane Derrow, Student Council President Mark Maes took to the podium to review the past year, which he described as one of "love, loss, excitement, and anticipation."

ELKHART â Plymouth power hitter Damon Howe took it personally when the Pilgrimsâ rally fell short at Elkhart Memorial Wednesday.
When Plymouth made the pilgrimage back to Elkhart on Friday, this time for a Northern Lakes Conference showdown with Concord, Howe did something about it.
Howe drove in five of Plymouthâs six runs as the Pilgrims broke the game open with a big third inning to claim a 10-2 NLC victory on the road at Concord and stay in the hunt for an NLC championship.
PLYMOUTH â With all the success Plymouth football has enjoyed over the past three-year cycle, colleges around the country are taking notice.
The Rockies have graduated numerous college recruits in the past several seasons, and a trio of Plymouth players is continuing that tradition in 2011.
PHS seniors Damon Howe, Brock Smith and Houston Hodges will all continue their football careers at the collegiate level.
PLYMOUTH â Chuck Muller, Director of Member Services of âHoley Moleyâ will address the membership and guests at a dinner meeting Tuesday, May 10, at the Plymouth Country Club.
Muller will present âRecent Changes to the Indiana Call Before Law and How it Affects You.â He will cover all the recent changes and talk about the fines that can be assessed for failure to comply with certain aspects of the Safe Digging process.
Muller has been with Indiana 811 since 1995. Currently, he is responsible for the member and public relations aspects of the organization. Â

PLYMOUTH â Residents will have to deal with the extension of the closure of Pioneer Drive starting next Wednesday.
Ron Wireman of DLZ, construction engineer on the project, said that Pioneer would be closed up to Miller Road Wednesday May 11.
âThis means as of next Wednesday morning, Pioneer Drive will be closed from Lincoln Hwy. (Old 30) to Miller Road,â said Wireman in a press release Thursday. âThis means that we will also be closing Jim Neu drive. Jim Neu Drive will be closed from Pioneer Drive 600 feet to the east.â
