Local author Ray Gleason will read from his new book, "The Violent Season," about the generation of young Americans who experienced the Vietnam war, Friday, March 9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Culver Coffee Company in Culver.

A dream no longer deferred

BREMEN — The best things are worth waiting for.
With 1:08 left in regulation, Abraham Hall scored a takedown against Elkhart Central’s Dominique Stauffer, then held on for a 3-1 decision and the state championship in the heavyweight title match of the 74th annual IHSAA individual state wrestling finals at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse Saturday.
And while Hall’s state championship dreams may have finally culminated when he stepped atop the heavyweight podium Saturday, the origins of the Bremen senior’s title run can really be seen in the 2010-11 season.

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Former Plymouth resident, Nola Marie Thorne, 91, of Zephyrhills, Fla. died of natural causes at 6:20 a.m. in Gulfside Center for Hospice Care, Zephyrhills, Friday, Feb. 17, 2012.
A Godly woman Nola was loved by all of her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all. She was born in Sapulpa, Okla., Oct. 3, 1920, the daughter of Oscar M. and Donnie Smith Patterson.
She graduated from Hammond High School and Nov. 8, 1938, in Hammond, was married to Roy E. Thorne. Roy died Dec. 9, 1988.

TIPPECANOE — Kathryn “Kay” Weissert, 88, of Tippecanoe, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at 5:11 p.m. at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Kay was born the daughter of Ralph Reed and Lois Hite Reed Nov. 7, 1923 in Bourbon Township, Marshall County and was a resident of the area all of her life. She was a graduate of Bourbon High School, in the class of 1941. She also attended South Bend Business College of Commerce and worked at St. Joseph Bank and Trust Company of South Bend prior to her marriage.

BOURBON — Terry Linn Gochenour, 65, of Bourbon, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at 1:58 p.m. in his home of natural causes.
Terry was born the son of Lewis Devon Gochenour and Ethel Wallace Gochenour Nov. 7, 1946 at Warsaw, and was a resident of the area all his life. He was a graduate of Triton High School with the class of 1965. He was a truck driver for Heckaman Homes before he had a serious accident in 1984.

Bremen’s Nolan Filchak won the 100 butterfly at the South Bend Riley Boys Swim Sectional Saturday to earn the Lions’ sole berth to the state swim finals next weekend.
