Up to last weekend, Culver’s “little community that could” Relay for Life events had raised $349,000. After last Friday and Saturday’s Relay, according to organizers, make that $472,000.
Eric Saunders, new Promoter for Plymouth Speedway announced Tuesday afternoon that he has secured a special visit by Travis Pastrana for Friday, Aug. 12.
Pastrana is a motorsports competitor and stunt performer who has won 11 gold medals in the X Games. Known for his dare-devil jumps, he currently has a show called Nitro Circus on MTV where he attempts mind-blowing stunts.
This year Pastrana has partnered with NASCAR team owner Michael Waltrip to form Pastrana Waltrip Racing and will drive in seven Nationwide races this season with the first one being in Indianapolis July 30.

PLYMOUTH — Angela (Angie) Mills was officially named principal for Jefferson Elementary for the 2011-12 school year, replacing retiring Bob Remenih.
Currently Mills is the Dean of Students at Lincoln Junior High.
Jefferson is the one elementary school that Mills has not worked extensively at during her eight years with the school system. She served as a substitute as a JESSE aide, student taught at both Washington and Webster, and was the Title I Reading teacher at Menominee for four yeas before moving to LJH.

PLYMOUTH — A tabled hearing will move on to action for the Marshall County Drainage Board.
A month ago, the board tabled action on the Harley Berger — also known as the Snyder — Ditch in south east Marshall County. The board had tabled action during that meeting to allow members to visit the area and ascertain what if any action was needed on a petition to put the drain on public maintenance assessment.

PLYMOUTH — While the picture is not a rosy one, it isn’t dark either as Marshall County continues to enjoy the positive feeling of economic comeback after one of the worst economic downturns in recent history.
One part of the good news is that economic hardships that battered other communities didn’t hit Marshall County businesses quite as hard.

LAKEVILLE – The Union-North United Board of School Trustees unanimously approved staffing changes for the 2011-12 school year Thursday, but not without lengthy discussion.
President Mark Dickson and trustees Rob Swathwood, Dennis Graf and Dave Grenert voted 4-0 to move a LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School industrial arts position from full time to 4-7, bump up an ag teacher to full time, and return a full time assistant principal and athletic department secretary to the high school. Board member Mike Berger was absent from the meeting.

Raymond E. Beck, 90, a Plymouth resident since 1994, coming from LaPorte, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Carriage Way residence he made with his son and family.
The son of Fred S. and Lela Smith Beck, Ray was born in Dayville, Oregon Feb. 26, 1921. He later moved with his family to Chicago suburb of Harvey, Ill.

WALKERTON — Jeffro G. Shadrix, 87, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.Â
He is survived by daughters, Voncelle (Roger) Burchell of Moulton, Ala. and Rebecca (James) Sliter of Walkerton; sons, David (Brenda) Shadrix of Valparaiso and Gerald (Rudy) Shadrix of Knox; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters: Gertrude Rameriez of Portage, Betty Duke of Alabama, Bobbie Sherer of Portage and Marie Keen of Georgia; and brothers, B.M. Shadrix of Florida and France Shadrix of Georgia.
