Two LaVille seniors earn rare honors

LAKEVILLE — Kameron Flynn and Anthony Singleton, both 2012 graduates of LaVille Jr./Sr. High School, have done something that only three students at the school have done before. The two graduated with both academic and technical honors on their diploma.

ARGOS — Barbara “Granny” E. Hutchinson, 79, of Argos died June 10, 2012 at 11:40 p.m. at Life Care Center of Rochester following a short illness.
She is survived by a son, Scott Hutchinson of Pierceton; daughter, Cara Kowal of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister, Cindy Karns of Ohio; and daughter-in-law, Julie Hutchinson of Argos.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday June 15, 2012 at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos.

Alex Banfich named to Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field Team

PRINCETON, N.J. — Plymouth native and recent Princeton graduate Alex Banfich has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field Team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Banfich is a four-time All-America on the Princeton women’s cross country and women’s track teams. She placed fifth at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championship, the highest finish by a Tiger at the NCAAs in program history.

Post 27 wins Terre Haute tourney opener
Plymouth Post 27 won its opener at the Terre Haute Tournament Thursday, scoring three runs in the third and tacking on another two in the seventh for a 5-3 victory over Terre Haute Post 346.
After starting out the game with six straight strike outs, the Diamond Spyder offense woke up in the top half of the third, scoring three runs on a pair of Post 346 errors and a double by Eric Knepper of Bremen.

Holderman convicted

MARSHALL CO. —A Marshall County jury deliberated almost four hours Wednesday, after which it found Taran James Holderman of Warsaw guilty of Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Possession of Precursors with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine. After hearing a day and a half of testimony, the jury returned its verdict to presiding Judge Robert O. Bowen of Marshall Superior Court No. 1.

Entertainment by MC Church Orchestra begins at 9 a.m. Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center will have free health screenings from at 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be strawberry shortcake tasting free at the information booth. The Farmers Market is held from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in River Park Square at Garro and River Streets east of Michigan.

1 arrested for shoplifting, other charges

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Dollar General Wednesday and followed a suspect, Nicholas Hundt, 33, of Plymouth, in his black Jeep to the area of the Webster Center. Hundt was apprehended and police discovered that he had a suspended driver's license and packaging from the stolen item in his possession. An active meth lab was also located in the back seat of the vehicle. Indiana State Police meth team was contacted for processing and clean up. Hundt was incarcerated for manufacturing meth, theft, and driving while suspended.

Alumni Banquet will welcome Hall inductees

PLYMOUTH — The biggest school reunion of the year takes place Friday at Plymouth High School when the Plymouth Alumni Association hosts a doubly-eventful Alumni Banquet beginning at 6 p.m. The banquet portion of the evening will see the induction of Suellen Glaub Long, Dr. Robert Vore and Dr. Arthur Becknell Jr. into the Plymouth Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.
After dinner, the PAA will host a special concert with 1995 PHS grad and Dove Award winning Denver Bierman beginning at 8 p.m. in the PHS Auditorium.
