Garden Harvest Chicken Salad

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 40 min.

Ingredients
Salad
½ cup Ranch Dressing (light variety can be used)
½ cup sliced green onions
½ medium red onion peeled,sliced
1 can (15 ounces) drained kidney beans rinsed
1 cup broccoli florets
1 cup cherry tomatoes halved
1 package (12 ounce) salad greens
4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
â…“ cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Directions
Broil or grill chicken breasts and allow to cool. Diagonally slice the chicken slice breasts and set aside.

PLYMOUTH — JoAnn T. Isban, 84, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully at home in the company of her devoted husband, Leonard, and loving family July 12, 2013.
She was born Feb. 9, 1929 in South Bend, to Helen and Sylvester Zell. As a graduate of South Bend Catholic High School, JoAnn was employed as an Administrative Assistant at the Studebaker Corporation. On Sept. 11, 1948, at Holy Cross parish, she married Leonard Isban.

KOONTZ LAKE — Peter E. Daley, 84, died Friday, July 12, 2013 in his home.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandy (Mike) Ross of Walkerton and Karen (Steve) Cole of Knox; four sons, Peter Daley II of Walkerton, John Daley of Plymouth, Randy (Lisa) Daley and Ronald (Yvonne) Daley, all of Grovertown; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Katsianis of Alabama and Allison of Muncie; and three brothers, James Daley of Koontz Lake, Bradley Daley of Arizona and Albert Beam of Knox.

•Todd Michael Dalton, 23 of Knox was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 12:15 p.m. on July 12 for failure to appear.
•Omer Ray Trent, 31 no address, was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 7:56 p.m. on July 12 for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement, failure to stop after an accident.
•Drew Wesley Schieber, 21 of Plymouth was arrested by Plymouth Police at 9:25 p.m. on July 12 for operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license.

Heat, humidity warning issued

MARSHALL COUNTY — Emergency Management has issued an alert advising residents of hot and humid conditions that begin today and continue through Friday.

According to the alert which was broadcast at 8:21 a.m. Monday, temperatures are expected to be in the low 90s, with a heat index near 100 degrees.

A staple of kids' lunches for decades, peanut butter and jelly is more versatile than many might know. In fact, peanut butter and jelly can even be incorporated into dessert. Such is the case with the following recipe for "Peanut Butter and Jelly Ice Cream Sandwiches" from Jill Lightner's "Edible Seattle: The Cookbook" (Sterling Epicure).

Peanut Butter and Jelly Ice Cream Sandwiches

Makes 24 treats

For the peanut butter bread:
1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature

UPDATE: Lake Maxinkuckee drowning victim identified

Culver EMS, fire, and area police responded to a call after 7 p.m. Sunday evening from the town beach in Culver where 22-year-old Valentin Sirghi, of Plymouth had reportedly been under the water for some 30 minutes.

A friend of Sirghi, also 22, reported the two had been swimming near the buoy line on the east end of the swimming area and were returning to shore when he noticed his friend went under.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013 at St. Michael Church.
Burial will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Zesty Pasta Salad Recipes

Ingredients.SERVES 6

10 ounces rotini pasta
11/2 cups broccoli, cut into florets
1 can (15 oz.) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 large red or green sweet pepper, chopped
1/3 cup chopped onion
4 ounces part skim Mozzarella cheese, cubed or grated
1 can (2 oz.) chopped ripe olives
1 large carrot, diced
8 ounces lean, cooked roast beef, cut in julienne strips
2/3 cup (or amount to taste) low-calorie Italian dressing

Directions

1. Cook pasta according to package directions.
