August 1, 2013

•Ted Alfred Collins, 48 of Bourbon was arrested by Bourbon Police at 1:25 p.m. on July 31 for domestic battery.
•Austin Allen Lawrence Pike, 21 of Plymouth was arrested by Plymouth Police at 3:20 p.m. on July 31 for probation violation
•Richard Allen Rigsby, 34 of Mishawaka was arrested by Plymouth Police at 4:15 p.m. on July 31 for forgery, possession of a controlled substance.
•Diane Bartley, 44 of Fort Wayne was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 4:35 p.m. on July 31 for driving while suspended, operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license.

Pilot News Movie Review: Smurf 2 is family-friendly

PLYMOUTH - Growing up, I enjoyed watching the Smurfs on television. Face it, at 19, I am still a fan and this week's release of The Smurfs 2 did not disappoint the fan in me.

The movie showing at the Tri-Way Drive In Movie Theater, opened Wednesday night. And, as all movies like this should, it delivered an important message — that you can choose who the kind of person you really want to be. With themes like family and fitting in, there are plenty of wholesome messages in the movie.

Plymouth Pony League wraps season

The Plymouth 16U Pony League finished up its end of season tournament last weekend.
Valmont, pictured at top, surged from a fifth-place regular season finish to run the table at the tournament and beat In Home Inspections 11-3 for the championship. The team is: Cody Bernero, Noah Harrell, Jacob Hildebrand, Alex Hoover, Carson Hoover, Patrick Houser, Josh Mattke, Brandon Milligan, Zach Pitney, Gunnar Rains, Cody Schoff, Max Slusser and Jeremy Splix. Coaches are Greg Hildebrand, Dave Hoover, Darrell Rains and Dave Harrell.

BURR OAK — Leon Jesse Sims, 63, of Burr Oak, left this world Monday, July 29, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth after a sudden illness.
He was born at Memorial Hospital in South Bend on Oct. 7, 1949 to the late Jesse and Frances (Leap) Sims. After attending Culver Military Academy and graduating from Culver High School, he went on to attend South Bend College of Commerce and graduated with an associate degree in business.

Visitation is from 12-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth.
Funeral will follow visitation at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Burr Oak Cemetery.
Van Gilder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Culver-filmed movie adds Hollywood stars, draws hundreds to casting call

Representatives of Bearfruit Films, in Culver through the month of August to shoot the movie, "Little Savages" here, have announced at least three major stars of film and television have signed on for lead roles in the production.

•Jaime Rosas Rosas, 43 of Plymouth was arrested by Plymouth Police at 10:45 a.m. on July 30 for operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license.
•Kim Alan Dreibelbis Jr., 31 of South Bend was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 11 a.m. on July 30 for civil contempt.
•Cody James Schaetzle, 20 of Bourbon was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 2:15 p.m. on July 30 for failure to appear.
•Donald Wayne Smith, 36 of Walkerton was arrested by Plymouth Police at 7 p.m. on July 30 for dumping a controlled substance waste.

Zoning fines to reflect Plan policy

PLYMOUTH - Fines for zoning ordinance violations will now reflect policy for the Marshall County Plan office.

Marshall County Plan Director Ralph Booker brought a resolution to the Commission on Thursday night to revise the current county zoning ordinance regarding fines for infractions. Currently the ordinance is written to say that infractions will draw “…a fine of $200 per day…” after receipt of notice of the infraction.

“My philosophy has always been to try to bring people into compliance with the ordinance, not collect a fine,” Booker told the Commission.

1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 oz)

Baking Mixture
1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup biscuit or baking mix

2 eggs

Suggested Garnishes, if desired
12 mini kosher dill pickles
1 medium tomato, chopped
Ketchup and mustard


Heat oven to 375°F. Spray 12 regular-size muffin cups with cooking spray.

GLENWOOD, Iowa — Rev. Oran Miller, 79, of Glenwood, Iowa formerly of Toto entered into eternal rest July 21, 2013 at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood, Iowa.
He was born May 25, 1934 in Knott County, Ky. to Arzanious and Laura (Stacy) Miller. Oran faithfully served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Helen Jean Fletcher on July 27, 1957 in Knott. To this union two children were born, Pamela Sue and Johnny Ray.
