Glenn golf opens at 2-0
John Glennâ€™s girls golf team opened its 2013 season with a pair of wins as over Northridge and Tippecanoe Valley on Tuesday.
The Lady Falcons carded a team score of 212 to convincingly beat out Northridgeâ€™s 258, while Tippy Valley was unable to field a complete team with just three golfers at the triangular meet.
Glenn was led by Anna Schmeltzâ€™s round of 43, while Madeleine Silvey shot 53, Emma Reese carded a 56, and Morgan Eggleston shot 60 to complete the team score. Presley Gee shot 65 in the season-opener.
Plymouth football player Vincente Vasquez makes a sale to his coach, Brent Corbett and son Wilson Corbett for the teamâ€™s Rib Eye Sandwich Fundraiser. The meal is this Saturday starting at 11 a.m. and running up to game time for the teamâ€™s annual Soap Game at 6 p.m.
Tickets for the meal are $10 and include â€śspudsâ€ť and a drink. Sandwiches alone are $6. There will also be a bake sale and picnic area.
Admission for the Soap Game is â€” you guessed it â€” a bottle of soap. Tickets for the fundraiser are available from any PHS football player.

MILL CREEK â€” Mr. James C. Roda, 86, of Mill Creek, passed away, after a short illness on Saturday Aug. 3, 2013 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital.
He was born March 28, 1927 in Mill Creek, the son of Henry Roda and Inez (Hostetler) Roda.

BREMEN â€” Frank Nemeth, 85, of Bremen died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care in Elkhart.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Bremen; a daughter, Debbra (Rod) Herman of Bremen; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Martha Stine of Arizona.
A graveside service will be Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the Bremen Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.
â€˘Jonathan Lee Adriano, 30 of Winamac was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 8 a.m. on Aug. 5 for failure to appear.
â€˘Jeffery Lee Birk, 45 of Plymouth was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 12:40 on Aug. 5 for resisting law enforcement.
â€˘Marcus Wayne Borkholder, 20 of Bremen was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 5 for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement with force or a deadly weapon, reckless driving, illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
The Culver Kiwanis Club's annual summer raffle is underway, as evidenced by the presence throughout Culver of the items being raffled alongside assorted club members selling tickets.
This year's items include a TruRyde golf cart, Boardworks SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard), his and hers Electra cruiser bikes, and a Lifetime Daylite kayak. Raffle tickets are $10 each or three for $25, and are available at Osborn's Mini-Mart, Park N Shop, or any Kiwanis Club member.
Plymouth, NorthWood compete
at Lafayette Harrison Invite
Plymouth and NorthWood kicked off the girls golf season at the Lafayette Harrison Invitational Monday, as the Lady Panthers carded a 353 team score for third place and Plymouth golfers tallied a 412 for ninth place at the invite.
No. 7-ranked Lafayette Jefferson won the meet with a 337 led by low medalist Lindsey Burklowâ€™s 75.

LAKEVILLE â€”Â John Lewis Howell was born Aug. 14, 1924 in Lakeville to the union of Milo Dennis Howell and Myrtle Nolan Howell. John had two siblings, Deloris Joan Drinsky (deceased) and Ronald Neal â€śLeftyâ€ť Howell (North Liberty). Johnâ€™s parents preceded him in death.

PLYMOUTH â€” Pearl Bernice Rennells, 90, having been in failing health, passed away at her Plymouth home, at 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.
Born in York, N.D. on May 2, 1923, Pearl was the daughter of Elmer and Grace (Britsch) Crum.
Pearl graduated from Culver High School in 1941.
Her first job was at Wagoner Wire in Plymouth, and later several sales positions at Montgomery Ward and JC Penney until her retirement

WALKERTON â€”Â Kenneth Estell Hooper, 76, of Walkerton, formerly of Elkton, Ky., died Thursday Aug. 1, 2013 at 2:30 a.m. at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor in Walkerton. Services were Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, 11 a.m. at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton, Ky. Burial followed in the Stokes Chapel Cemetery in Todd County. Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Latham Funeral Home.
