Glenn close but no cigar vs Jimtown

September 3, 2013

WALKERTON — In years past, a 6-0 loss at the hands of Jimtown might have seemed pretty respectable. It might even have been thought of as a kind of moral victory for John Glenn.
You couldn’t tell that to first-year Falcons coach Dave Sharpe after Saturday’s loss, though.
Sharpe — the son of longtime Jimtown football coach Bill Sharpe and a former Jimmies football player himself — was taciturn following his team’s narrow 6-0 defeat at the hands of its Northern State Conference rival in Walkerton.

Rockies rumble in Rochester forfeit

August 31, 2013

PLYMOUTH — It was rain shortened, but it will count as a win. The IHSAA will decide the score.
With constant lightening in the area Plymouth and Rochester were unable to continue their Friday night game at Plymouth. After a Plymouth 29-yard touchdown run by Michael Hartman with 9:24 to play in the third quarter, officials delayed the game for lightening the first time with the Rockies in front 35-0.
With the decision not to resume the game it will be up to the IHSAA to decide if that will remain the final or whether it will be a 2-0 forfeit decision.

Northfield runs past outnumbered Trojans

August 31, 2013

BOURBON — Triton football head coach John Johns made one thing perfectly clear following his team’s loss Friday — he’s darn proud of his charges.
While the crafty Northfield offense rolled up 287 rushing yards en route to a 27-6 victory over host Triton, the small-in-numbers, big-in-effort Trojans earned plenty of praise from their leader.
“We dressed 22 guys and played 16,” Johns said. “We can last for awhile, but I wouldn’t trade these guys for any other group of guys. I love each and every one of them.
