Texting while driving illegal, tough to enforce

March 11, 2013

MARSHALL CO. — Texting while driving has been illegal in Indiana since 2011. But will police actually pull you over if they see you looking at your phone behind the wheel?
Plymouth Police Chief Dave Bacon said it’s possible — but the law is a tough one for his officers to enforce.
“The way the current law is written, it’s for text messaging and emailing (on a mobile device),” said Bacon. “Well, people could be looking at a map online. Will we stop them? Yes, we will stop them. But I don’t think the law is highly enforced the way it’s written now.”

Q: The first question is always about your family. Tell us about them.

A : My family is very important to me. I have three siblings — two little sisters and a little brother. My little brother played JV basketball this year so I’m excited to see what he’s going to do next year. And my sisters are going to be entering seventh grade next year so they’re going to be in big school so that’s interesting too.

Q: You’re going to play basketball at Valparaiso next year. What do you plan to study there?

Community book talk coming up

March 8, 2013

PLYMOUTH — Every year, the Plymouth Public Library encourages patrons to read one book as a community.
The “One Book One Town” program is similar to a giant book club — one that everyone is welcome to.
“The idea is to promote lifelong literacy and to share ideas — so we read one book together,” said Anna Liechty, a Friends of the Library member and the leader of the upcoming community book talk.
This year’s book is The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, a memoir by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer.
