PLYMOUTH — Annabelle K. Peregrine, age 87, passed away at 1:17 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
Annabelle was born in Altoona, Pa. on May 19, 1925 to Robert B. and Mildred B. (Estright) Cowan. She attended Bellefonte High School until the 10th grade.
On April 18, 1946 in Plymouth, Annabelle was married to Lawrence W. Peregrine.

ROCHESTER — Ruth M. Green, 80, of Rochester died at 7:40 p.m. March 5 at her home.
She is survived by two daughters, Sheryll Green, Misty (Keith) Eskridge; two sons, William “Brian” (Janelle) Green all of Rochester, Mickey Green of Kewanna; a sister, Janet “Dolly” Ballinger of Rochester; three brothers, Merrill (Grace) Azbell of North Manchester, Wendell  “Wendy” (Carol) Azbell of North Vernon, Daryle (Carolyn) Azbell of Peru; and three grandchildren.

Local Head Start could be losing 5 percent of federal funding

MARSHALL CO. — Spending cuts in Washington could be affecting some Marshall County children soon.
President and CEO of Marshall-Starke Development Center Mike Lintner visited the county commissioners’ meeting Monday to give an annual report. During the report, Lintner said that he was notified Friday that the federal funding for Head Start — a preschool program for children ages 3 to 5 from low-income families — could be cut by up to 5 percent as a result of the federal sequester.

Defense as usual for Plymouth as Pilgrims get ready for Saturday

PLYMOUTH — While teams like to stay in a normal routine in tournament time, this week has been anything but normal for Plymouth’s Pilgrims (20-3) as they prepare to face West Lafayette (19-5) in Saturday’s opening regional contest.
Saturday’s second game features Gary Wallace (14-7) against Andrean (20-3).
Mother Nature has thrown a wrench in the works for normalcy, but head coach Ryan Bales and his team have done the best they can to work business as usual.

CGA’s Cvitkovic singled out for 2 more postseason honors

CULVER — Culver Girls Academy’s Anrijana Cvitkovic has received two more honors following the conclusion of her senior basketball season with the Lady Eagles.
Cvitkovic, an athletic 6-2 import from Kraljevica, Croatia, has been named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/ Subway Senior All-State first team and was invited to participate in the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 60 Workout , the two organizations announced Wednesday.

KNOX — Jacqueline “Jackie” Collins, 56, of Knox died March 2, 2013.
He is survived by sons, Paul Edward (Karen) Tolson of North Judson, Ralph Collins of Plymouth, David Collins of Battle Creek, Mich.; daughter, Christal (Obet) Taborn of Knox; brothers, James “Bub” (Anna) Tolson of North Judson, Raymond (Brenda) Tolson of Knox, Hager (Rose) Tolson of Knox, Jerry (Linda) Tolson of Argos, Danny Tolson of Grandridge, Fla., Mike (Pat) Tolson of Knox; sisters, Helen “Sis” Mullins of Knox, Anna (Bobby) Rudd of Michigan City; and 10 grandchildren.

Calm before the storm

PLYMOUTH - Sometimes waiting is the hard part.
With winter storm warnings in the forecast Tuesday local road crews were on “high alert”.
“We were actually ready for it yesterday (Monday),” said Plymouth Street Department Superintendent Jim Marquardt on Tuesday morning waiting for the storm. “We had a crew come in at 4 a.m. because of what was predicted last night because we thought it would be good to get a jump on it.”

Lancers look to stay focused for 2A North Judson Regional

LAKEVILLE — Team defense has been the recipe for LaVille’s success this postseason, but the Lancers may face an even more formidable D when they tip off against No. 7 Bowman Academy in the North Judson-San Pierre Regional this Saturday.
LaVille (18-6) takes on the Eagles (14-9) in the late semifinal at the Judson tourney, scheduled to follow the regional opener between Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (15-6) and Boone Grove (14-8) at 11 a.m. ET.

CGA polo team to compete in national tilt

STORRS MANNSFIELD, Conn. — The Culver Girls Academy interscholastic polo team will compete in the United States Polo Association Girls’ National Interscholastic Championship Tournament this week at the Horsebarn Hill Arena at the University of Connecticut.
Culver faces off against wild card selectee Newport (Rhode Island) in the opener when the event kicks off Thursday as the best high school girls teams in the country compete to showcase the growing landscape of women’s polo. 

Times announced for Plymouth Regional; all-tourney tickets go on sale today

PLYMOUTH — The times of this Saturday’s Plymouth Boys Basketball Regional have been changed.
Plymouth will play West Lafayette in the early game at 10:30 a.m. at The Rock with Gary Wallace set to face off against Andrean in the late game at approximately 12:30 p.m. The championship is slated for 8:30 p.m.
