GRANGER â€”Â John C. Townsend, 68, of Granger, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka from complications following surgery.

BELMONT, Mich. â€” Christine Gail Childers, 67, of Belmont, Mich., died at 11:43 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.
She is survived by three sons, William â€śBillyâ€ť (Erin) Childers of Ada, Mich., Christopher (Christina) Lee Childers of Rockford, Mich., Steve (Pamela) Childers of Cherryville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and three brothers, Dr. Dan (Kathy) Quinlan DVM of Rochester, Timothy Quinlan of Morely, Mich., Richard Quinlan of Comstock Park, Mich.
Argosâ€™ Damon Binkley scored three goals at the Peru Regional semifinal Thursday night to set a new single-season scoring record of 42 goals. Binkley added another goal Saturday in the regional final.
Plymouthâ€™s Abby Patrick clocked a 20:13.8 for fifth place out of 59 runners at the Culver Girls Academy Sectional on Tuesday. She qualified for the New Prairie Semistate with a 13th-place finish Saturday at Culver.
PERU â€” Familiar opponent, new stakes and a new venue. Different game, same result.
The last time that Argos played Faith Christian, the Dragons only needed one half to put their opponents away, 3-0, after lightning cut the game short at the intermission back on Aug. 30 at Argos. At Saturdayâ€™s Peru Regional championship, the two teams were locked in a scoreless tie through 66 minutes.
ARGOS â€” For the second straight Saturday, the Argos girlsâ€™ soccer team had a quick start, and the result was a 2-1 win over Westview for an IHSAA Regional title.
Kennedy Binkleyâ€™s pass found Courtney Dunlap and the freshman striker hit her 18th goal of the season less than two minutes in. Forty seconds later, senior midfielder Shelby Sanders took the hostâ€™s first corner kick and watched the ball curl directly into the goal. Three minutes into the match, Argos was up 2-0. Â Â Â Â Â

KNOX â€”Â Goldie Wagers, 78, of Knox, passed away Oct. 19, 2013 at her home.
Goldie was born May 1, 1935 in Jackson, Ky. to Granville and Evaline (Spencer) Fugate. She was married to Adam Wagers on July 26, 1952 in Knox. He preceded her in death Feb. 23, 2013.
Goldie lived a very busy and productive life raising nine children. Her favorite passion was her faith and loving her Lord Jesus Christ. She loved canning, quilting, and gardening. Everyone looked forward to her warm baked gingerbread.

BREMEN â€”Â Nettie Mae Bellman, 98, of Bremen passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at Hubbard Hill Estates in Elkhart. She was born May 15, 1915 to John and Susie (Mullet) Rouch. Nettie graduated from Eager Elementary School, Lakeville High School, attended Fort Wayne Bible College, and graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University, Bethel College (B.A.) and Indiana University (M.S. EDU.) South Bend.
Marie Louise (Bernero) Alvis

CULVER â€”Â Marie Louise (Bernero) Alvis, 88, of Culver, formerly of Argos, died Oct. 19, 2013 at 4:45 p.m. at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor of Culver following a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 8, 1925 in Argos to Louis and Mary (Brizzolera) Bernero.
She had lived in the Argos community most of her life. In 1961 she moved to Indianapolis and returned to the Argos community several years ago.
On Jan. 5, 1961 in Plymouth, she married Roger Lee Alvis. He preceded her on June 15, 2013.

NAPPANEE â€”Â Donald D. Hepler, 88, of Nappanee, died at 11:15 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at Bremen Healthcare Center.
Surviving are his children, Blake (Linda) Hepler, Nappanee, Patrice (Kenneth) Young, Mishawaka; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Lamar Hepler, Nappanee.
