Lady Pilgrims roll past Clay at Penn

MISHAWAKA — It took Plymouth a little while to get rolling in their Penn Sectional-opener with Clay Thursday night. Once they got started, there was no stopping the Lady Pilgrims.
After falling behind early in the first set, Plymouth pretty much dominated in a three-set, 25-9, 25-20, 25-12 victory over the Colonials at the Palace.
The Pilgrims advance to play Mishawaka Saturday at 12:30 p.m. after the Cavemen’s three-set 25-13, 25-12, 25-7 win over Adams in Thursday’s opener.

Bremen breezes through LaVille
Bremen advanced through Northern State Conference foe LaVille with a three-set win at the Central Noble Sectional Thursday night, 25-17, 25-11, 25-12.
The Lions advance to play Westview Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by a semifinal between Central Noble and Fremont. Championship is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Plymouth grad, decorated officer Larry Tibbetts dies

SAN ANTONIO, TX - One of Plymouth and Marshall County’s most distinguished natives has died at age 79.
Major General Larry N. Tibbetts - a 1952 graduate of Plymouth High School and honored as the school’s first member in the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame - died in San Antonio, TX on Oct. 14 after a battle with lung cancer.
General Tibbetts was born in Trenton, Mo. in 1934 and spent his school years in Plymouth. He was a three sport athlete at Plymouth High School, participating in baseball, basketball and football.

PLYMOUTH — Fannie S. Partain, 79, of Plymouth passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at 12:55 p.m. in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth.
Fannie was born on a hill in Wynne, Ark. on Sept. 12, 1934 to John J. and Sarah Irene Evans Dobbins. She attended grade school in Arkansas.
She married Leeman Franklin Smith in 1952 in Arkansas. In her early years, she worked for Addison Shoe Factory in Arkansas. She then married Bobby Floyd Partain. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1974.

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. — Walter L. Salyer, 77, of Hot Springs Village passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 at a local hospital. Walter was born Oct. 12, 1936 to Wishard and Ruby (Hall) Salyer in Salyersville, Ky.
Walter served in the U.S. Army, he was an avid golfer, he enjoyed poker, cribbage, and he loved the Packers.

BLOOMINGTON — A Funeral Mass for former Culver resident, Margaret Jane “Peg” Paschal Lewis, 89, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 400 N. Center St., Plymouth with Rev. Thomas E. Haynes officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the parish hall.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Lewis, their five children: Andrew, Jane (Richard), David, Peter (Tammy), and Megan (Chris) along with 10 grandchildren.

BREMEN — James R. Cox, 90, of Bremen passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013. He was born on Dec. 22, 1922 to Clarence and Irene (Hiatt) Cox in Columbus, Ohio. On Sept. 15, 1946 he married Anna Lucille Clark; she passed in September of 2009. He later married Jean Lashbrook on June 5, 2010.

BREMEN — Vera B. Heinke, 92, of Bremen passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 at the Bremen Healthcare Center. She was born Oct. 8, 1921 to Harvey and Laura (Leeper) Senff in Nappanee, the sixth child in a family of 12 siblings. On Nov. 15, 1942, she married Robert Heinke; he passed in 1994. Vera was a 1939 graduate of Argos High School.

ARGOS — The following are some of the highlights from the Argos School Board meeting:

• Fourteen students won the Superintendent’s Art Contest and will have their art framed and hung in the Central Office. They range from grade three to high school seniors.

• The Eco Club’s field trip to Mammoth Cave was approved, as was the Leo Club’s participation in the annual Argos Lions Fruit Sale. $500 was given to the BPA Club by Michael and Judy Delp.

• Fourteen men and women were hired for 16 extra-curricular athletic positions, and 10 volunteers to the athletic program were appointed.
