Berkey homer lifts Westview past LaVille
Jake Berkey’s three-run shot in the bottom of the fifth brought Westview back from a 1-0 deficit, and the Warriors made it stand up in a 3-1 defeat of LaVille in the opener on their home turf at Class 2A Sectional 35 at Topeka Wednesday night.
Ryan Bettcher had a double and an RBI but took the tough loss on the mound for the Lancers, giving up just two hits while striking out 14 for his team.

Richard L “Dick†Harshman, was born in Clinton County on Dec. 31, 1927, the son of the late Carl Burton and Beatrice Irene (Berkey) Harshman.

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Mildred Virginia Curtis passed away Jan. 5, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Pensacola, Fla. where she had received loving care for several years from her daughter, Colleen G. (Curtis) Grozdanovski, and son-in-law, Petar Grozdanovski.
Born April 28, 1920 in Culver, she was the daughter of the late Henry L. and Rubie (Lasch) Henning of Culver.

PLYMOUTH — Mary Kathryn Neu, 89, formerly of Plymouth, passed away May 19, 2013. Mary was recently a resident of Sunrise Senior Living in Lombard, Ill.
She was born Dec. 18, 1923 in Bremen to John and Alwine Ryder.
She graduated from Bremen High School in 1941. After graduating high school, Mary worked at Associates South Bend and the Bremen Bank, Bremen.
On Jan. 16, 1954, Mary married James Henry Neu. She resided in Plymouth till 2007.

BREMEN — William “Bill†D. Heltzel, 82, of Bremen died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Hospice House of Elkhart
He is survived by two sons, Bryan (Angie) Heltzel of Milford and Joe (Lori) Manning of Bourbon; two daughters, Penny (Baziel) Vrient of Elkhart and Kim (Terry) Lamb of Plymouth; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.

•Lisa Ann Mitchell, 41, of Bremen was arrested by the Indiana State Police at 7:30 a.m. on May 21 for dealing, delivering and manufacturing methamphetamine.
•Jason Paul Kennedy, 37, of Plymouth was arrested by the Indiana State Police at 7:30 a.m. on May 21 for dealing, delivering and manufacturing methamphetamine.
PLYMOUTH - An investigation into the death of an inmate in the Marshall County Jail has determined it was by natural causes.
Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney David R. Holmes announced Tuesday that his office has completed its review of the April 7 death of Kerry Alan Pinder, 44, of Culver while incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail. The investigation was conducted by the Indiana State Police and the Marshall County Coroner, with the cooperation of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
