Plymouth boys come up short in Senior Night dual with Wawasee

May 2, 2013

PLYMOUTH — When senior sprinter Sam Stevens’ season ended with a pulled hamstring over the weekend, Plymouth boys track coach John Barron knew his team would be in for an uphill battle with Wawasee.
Add to that a number of personal bests by the Warriors at Wednesday’s Northern Lakes Conference dual meet, and the Pilgrims couldn’t quite get it done in a 75-57 Senior Night loss.

“We battled and got a win; it’s a team we got beat by earlier in the year, and that’s what it’s about,” said Plymouth head coach Ryan Wolfe. “We’d like to win two, but if you can’t we’ll take it.”

Lions hand Falcons 5-inning spanking

May 2, 2013

WALKERTON — John Glenn started out the season on a 10-win tear, but the Falcons suddenly seem to be slumping. Bremen’s baseball team is on the rise, meanwhile.
Headed in opposite directions, when the two teams met at The Nest in Walkerton Wednesday, it made for an old-fashioned spanking.
Bremen plated seven runs in the top of the first on the strength of six hits and four Glenn errors, and the Lions never looked back in a 13-2, five-inning defeat of the Falcons on the road.

The Jimmies recorded 19 hits in the game, including two home runs apiece by Evan Oblinger and Cole Gaugler as they downed the Cavs in five.
Nick Pritz homered and doubled for Culver, which responded to a five-run Jimtown first with five runs of its own in the top of the second, but fell too far behind to dig out of as the home team scratched out seven runs over the second and third innings.
