HARLINGEN, Texas â€” Guadalupe R. Vasquez, 82, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be remembered for her joyfulness, love for dancing, visiting with friends. She loved to wash dishes and stay busy with household chores and she would never miss her favorite Mexican Novelas. She retired from Pilgrim Farms after more than 20 years.

SOUTH BEND â€”Â Joshua David Whitaker, 30, of South Bend died Wednesday, May 22, 2013.
He is survived by his daughter, Peyton Whitaker of Fort Wayne; his father, Kenneth Whitaker of Bremen; six siblings, Stephanie Whitaker Hale, Dustin Whitaker, Bryan Whitaker, Aaron Whitaker all of South Bend, Ashley Whitaker of Winamac, Riley Whitaker of Argos; and a maternal grandfather, Austin Sizemore.
NEW YORK, NY â€” Plymouth Olympian Morgan Uceny will run in the 1500 meters today at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York City. TV coverage is to be live on NBC from 1 to 3 p.m. EST.
Having begun her training three months later than usual, Uceny is not expecting to win at todayâ€™s race but is instead hoping to hit a target time. After the raceâ€™s conclusion she will fly back to Louborough, England, where she now lives and trains before traveling to Rome to compete on June 6.
CULVER â€” With the rest of their team now out of the state tournament, Andria Shook and Marissa German are happy to carry the banner for Plymouth.
The Lady Pilgrims may have been eliminated from the team tennis tournament via a disappointing 3-2 decision to their repeat regional champion hosts at the Culver Girls Academy Regional championship Wednesday night, but Shook and German remained unbeaten in the tournament to stay alive in the IHSAAâ€™s 23rd Annual Doubles Tournament.
Lady Trojans win Sectional 51 title
Mallorie Jennings fanned 10 while allowing just one earned run in a complete seven-inning outing inside the circle, and Triton racked up 12 hits as the Lady Trojans brought home just the second softball sectional championship in school history with a 10-5 victory over Westville at the Class A South Central (Union Mills) Sectional Friday night.

PLYMOUTH â€” O. Mae Rhodes, age 89, of Plymouth, died at 3:15 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at her home.
Mae was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Warsaw, to David E. and Dorothy B. (Bielhauer) Williamson. She was co-owner of the Rhodes Grocery store in Etna Green. Mae also worked for Wagner Wire. She had been a resident of the Plymouth area for the past 49 years. Mae was a past member of the Women of the Moose, Lodge #1355, in Plymouth.
PLYMOUTH â€” If pitching and defense win championships, it would be hard to argue with the John Glenn Falconâ€™s chances of a sectional title at Plymouth.
Falcon starter Justin Gierlowski was one pitch away from a no-hitter, and Glenn made some slick defensive plays in his support in taking a 5-0 shutout from the host Pilgrims in the opening round of sectional play at Bill Nixon Field.
PLYMOUTH - The area got some positive economic news on Friday with the sale of Whitley Products to a Michigan based company - Aggressive Manufacturing Innovations or AMI.
"I can confirm that (AMI) has purchased the company and all of its remaining assets," said Kevin Smith a representative of AMI. "They just completed the sale and they are planning to re-open the Plymouth plant."
Smith said that he expected the company to be "operational to some degree" as early as next week but also said it would take some time before the company could become fully operational.
â€˘Christopher Lyn James, 28, of LaPorte was arrested by Bremen Police at 7:02 a.m. on May 23 for driving while suspended.
â€˘Tara Latrice Lee, 22, of Plymouth was arrested by Plymouth Police at 11:23 a.m. on May 23 for assisting a criminal resisting a law enforcement officer.
â€˘Jessalyn Taylor Matthews, 18, of Plymouth was arrested by Plymouth Police at 11:55 a.m. on May 23 for possession of methamphetamine.
â€˘Jose Luis Miranda, 26, of Plymouth was arrested by Plymouth Police at 3:30 p.m. on May 23 for possession of marijuana.
TOPEKA â€”Â Coming into Thursday nightâ€™s Westview Sectional championship game with LaVille, Bremen had just three home runs on the year. The No. 6 Lady Lions doubled that stat in Topeka.
