PLYMOUTH — Eugene O. “Pappy” Boos, 89, of Plymouth, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 10:25 a.m. in RiverCrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; sons, David Eugene (Jean) Boos, Cade, S.C., Gregory D. (Jo Ellen) Boos, Overland Park, Kan., Randall L. Boos of Plymouth; daughters, Janice E. Bean and Barbara L. (Douglas) Klapp, both of Plymouth; 14 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Ann) Boos; and one sister-in-law, Carolyn Boos all of Winamac.

•Margo Ann Wallace, 47 of Plymouth was arrested by Plymouth Police at 8:50 a.m. on June 7 for battery resulting in bodily injury, neglect of a dependent bodily injury.
•Joshua Aaron Palmer, 26, of Plymouth was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 10 a.m. on June 7 for probation violation.
•Brandon Lee Riester, 39 of Plymouth was arrested by Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 10:20 a.m. on June 7 for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

School districts find new teacher evaluation procedures challenging

MARSHALL COUNTY — As the school year closed at each of the seven school districts which serve Marshall County, students weren’t the only ones being evaluated for a final grade. Teachers were under scrutiny too.
It was part of the mandated teacher effectiveness evaluation imposed by state and federal regulations. While local school districts can develop their own set of criteria, most used the RISE evaluation and development system identified as the state model by the Indiana Department of Education.

Berg named Ummel Young Ref of the Year

ARGOS — Katie Berg of Plymouth has been awarded the North Central Soccer Association’s third annual T. Edward Ummel Young Referee of the Year Award, it was announced over the weekend.
Ummel was a long-time referee trainer for the NCSA, as well as treasurer, coach and board member of Argos Youth Soccer. He earned a reputation for excellent instruction and mentoring of youth soccer officials. The award remembers his standard of excellence with the selection of a young referee who has shown skill in officiating as well as quality in character.

Over 800 participate as Argos hosts NCSA All-Star Tournament

ARGOS — Argos played host to over 800 players in 100 games as the North Central Soccer Association (NCSA) held its 18th annual All-Star Tournament over the weekend.
Teams competed in pools playing three to four games to determine a winner. Seven games were played Friday. Over 60 games filled seven soccer fields from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and about 30 more were played Sunday beginning at noon.

LaVille’s Herbster, Shearer given ICGSA softball honors

LAKEVILLE — LaVille softball was given a trio of honors by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association, it was announced Saturday.
Junior pitcher Hanna Herbster was named to the association’s All-District lists, while Lady Lancers coach Scot Shearer was given a pair of honors both as Class 2A District 2 Coach of the Year and as one of three coaches chosen to represent the northern part of the state at the ICGSA North-South All-Star Game.

Mercer cracks double figures as Indian completes sweep of Kentucky
Trey Lyles of Indianapolis Tech scored 18 points, James Blackmon Jr. of Marion added 13 points on a perfect shooting performance, and Plymouth’s Mack Mercer also put up double digits as the Indiana Junior All-Stars completed a double sweep of Kentucky at St. Xavier High School in Louisville Saturday.
The Indiana boys won 86-73, while the Indiana girls won their game 77-57.

Graduation 2013

MARSHALL COUNTY — Friday evening, Plymouth High School closed the chapter for the Class of 2013.

This was the 138th commencement for the school.

With the class motto of “Believe in the promise of tomorrow, but live this day to the fullest,” Plymouth High School’s more than 230 graduates filled the floor of the gymnasium with parents, family and friends filling the stands. Featured speaker was the class Valedictorian, Gabe Vervynckt.
