As in, the Lady Trojans ran into a buzz saw opposite 13-time sectional champion Plymouth.

Glenn takes win over Pilgrims, 9-2

May 17, 2013

PLYMOUTH — As usual it was a playoff atmosphere at Bill Nixon Field for a match-up between Plymouth and John Glenn Friday.
The Pilgrims hope that it wasn’t a preview of next week’s sectional opener as they fell to the rival Falcons, 9-2.
The Pilgrims kept pace answering a pair of unearned third inning Glenn runs with a sac fly from George Stults and an RBI single from Elijah Nixon in the fourth. The floodgates came open in the Glenn fifth with a two-run double from Justin Giorlowski and a mammoth two-run homer from David Jawerski, and that would be enough for the Falcons.

Eagles ride big second to 5-inning win vs Bluejays

May 17, 2013

CULVER — The Culver Military Eagles scored nine runs in the second inning to put themselves ahead by seven and never looked back Friday, winning 13-3 in five innings at Wilkins Field over the North Judson Bluejays.
The Bluejays got off to a good start, scoring the first two runs of the game on a couple of errors by CMA in the top of the first. They also held the Eagles scoreless in the inning and took a 2-0 lead into the second. Judson’s Michael Berby got on base with a hit to lead off the second but was promptly picked off at first by CMA pitcher Colin Raver.

Patterson, a four-year standout with the Lady Dragons, has committed to play for the NCAA Division III Thunder under head coach Terry Stefankiewicz, a 2004 Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame inductee who coached previously at St. Francis and IPFW. He played at Indiana University for coach Jerry Yeagley.

Plymouth, Triton advance to sectional championship

May 17, 2013

BREMEN — A loss isn’t necessarily always a bad thing. Take Marissa Ross’ and Holly Stogsdill’s loss to Glenn’s Kyler Columbia and Allison Pudlo at last Saturday’s Northern State Conference meet.
The Triton duo seemed to have learned a few lessons in that defeat to their Glenn 1 doubles counterparts, and on Thursday they found the opportunity to apply them.

Bremen, Glenn earn regional berths at Penn Sectional

May 17, 2013

MISHAWAKA — Kevin Heckaman wanted to catch the runner from Penn. That’s what he really wanted.
But since that wasn’t likely to happen, Heckaman settled for the next best thing.
The Bremen sophomore, running anchor on the Lion 4 x 400 relay squad, motored around a runner from Mishawaka, then held off repeated challenges down the homestretch to finish second during Thursday’s IHSAA boys track sectional at Penn.
The No. 9-ranked Kingsmen, wrapping up a convincing sectional championship, won the relay in 3:21.57, just missing the meet record.
