LAPORTE â€” Eugene â€śGeneâ€ť Miller, 79, of LaPorte, formerly of Knox, died Friday, March 29, 2013 in Golden Living Center-Countyside, LaPorte.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanie (Mike) Marsh of Knox and Julie Ann Joseph of North Judson; two sons, Randy Gene (Ann) Miller of Warrenville, Ill. and Dennis Gene Wireman of Knox; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Everee Allen and Edie Fugate and one brother, Orville Ray Miller.
PLYMOUTH â€” Plymouth boys basketball coach Ryan Bales has been selected as one of six Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Bob King Coaches of the Year, it was announced Tuesday.
Honors are awarded according to IHSAA district boundaries, and Bales was one of two coaches to receive the distinction in District 1, along with Mike Hackett of Munster.
In his second season at the helm of Plymouth, Bales guided the Pilgrims to a 21-4 record and the teamâ€™s first sectional championship since 2010. He is 37-10 in two seasons with the Pilgrims since taking over for Kevin Stuckmeyer in 2011.
WALKERTON â€” One night after scoring 25 runs at Oregon-Davis, the John Glenn Falcons found themselves in a dogfight with one of South Bendâ€™s premier programs in Washington at home Tuesday night.
Fortunately for the Falcons, they got a stellar performance from pitcher Mark Einhorn and rallied with more than enough offense during a fourth-inning outburst to pull out the win.
The unseasonably cold early spring weather led to more postponements Tuesday night.
Plymouthâ€™s baseball game with South Central was rescheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. EST, and the Lady Pilgrimsâ€™ softball game at Mishawaka was also pushed back to Thursday at 5 p.m. Plymouthâ€™s JV baseball game at Rochester was postponed with no rescheduled date as of press deadline.
Down the road in Culver, meanwhile, the Lady Cavaliers-Argos softball game was moved back a day to tonight with the same start time of 4:30 p.m.
LaVilleâ€™s baseball and softball games were also called Tuesday.
