Plymouth's Kindergarten Round-up postponed

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Community School Corporation has postponed Tuesday's Kindergarten Round-up due to predicted bad weather.
The Round-up will now take place Thursday, Feb. 28.
Since non-resident students can now attend PCSC with no tuition, parents are invited to bring their children to Plymouth for the Round-up. All of the elementary schools will be holding registration in two sessions, 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Parents and children need only attend one session. Each session should last no longer than an hour.

‘It’s not just about books anymore’

PLYMOUTH — What’s changed in the last 100 years at the library? The resounding answer is “technology.”
Plymouth Public Library is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and director Susie Reinholt along with long-time librarians Debbie Beck and Linda Hindman recently gathered to share some thoughts about the future of the library.
Though all agreed that they can’t see a time when books are obsolete, the three women said that people’s needs for the library have changed significantly as technology advances.

Partner remembers a Plymouth legend

PLYMOUTH - A fond memory of the culture of the town of Plymouth has lost one half of one of it’s most famous teams.
Last Friday Corky Lingle passed away at the age of 77. Corky had been in ill health the past few years.
In his younger days Corky and Rick Derf were the WTCA voice of nearly every Plymouth basketball and football memory that many of us have.

Bremen’s Nolan Filchak wrapped up a sensational sophomore season with a 16th-place finish in the 100 butterfly at the 76th Annual IHSAA Boys State Swim Finals Saturday in Indianapolis.

CULVER — It may be a new sectional site, but Triton is looking for the same result as the Class A Sectional 19 gets under way this week.
The five-peat champion Trojans are hitting the road for the first time in tourney play since 2008 as Culver Community hosts this year’s tilt, but while Triton may be in hostile territory, the team isn’t looking to let its championship streak end this week.

Lions, Lancers hit the road for Westview

TOPEKA — If you’ve got to prepare for someone anyway, why not get ready for the best?
That’s Bremen’s mentality headed into the Lions’ Class 2A Westview Sectional-opening game with the host Warriors Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
Bremen drew the two-time defending tourney champs in the first-round match-up at Sectional 35 in Topeka, but rather than bemoaning what is most likely the tournament’s toughest draw, Lions head coach Ryan Eakins was positive about the pick.

ROCHESTER — Robert M. Townsend, 88, of Rochester, died at 6:05 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at Woodlawn Hospital.
On Jan. 4, 1925, Robert was born, the treasured son of Walter D. and Mary Elizabeth Wheadon Townsend. Growing up as one of seven children he shared his childhood with four sisters and two brothers. Following high school, patriotism beckoned him and he enlisted as a member of the United States Navy, serving our country during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

ARGOS — Dale Vernon Thompson, 92, of Argos died Feb. 21, 2013 at 9:29 a.m. at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw following a sudden illness.
He was born Oct. 25, 1920 near Argos in Green Township to Alva and Hazel (Kindig) Thompson. He lived all of his life in the Argos community.
On June 22, 1947 at the Walnut Church of the Brethren, Argos, he married Lois Pfeiffer; she preceded him Dec. 15, 1993.
He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Local #150.
