Slabaugh, Lucchese lead Lady Lions in sectional opener
Bremen jumped out to a 17-11 lead at the first quarter break and held off Prairie Heights down the stretch for a 58-53 victory at the Lady Lionsâ opener at the Class 2A Central Noble Sectional Tuesday night.
Sara Slabaugh and Ashley Lucchese put up 17 and 16 points, respectively, and Chelsea Huppert finished with eight as the Lions earned back-to-back wins for just the second time this season.

BREMEN âÂ Philip Osborn Reidenbach, age 90, went peacefully to be with his Lord at home Feb. 1, 2013 with his beloved family by his side.
Phil was born March 10, 1922, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Elmer Clyde Reidenbach and Marjorie Mae Osborn Reidenbach. He married Glennis Ilene Birkey on Dec. 24, 1942. They were married for 69 years and lived in Bremen, until October 2011 when they moved to Conway, S.C., to live with their daughter.Â

PLYMOUTH â George A. Born, 88, died at 9:13 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, in Millerâs Merry Manor, Plymouth.
He is survived by his son, Kenji Born of Chicago.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Masonic Rites will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, with funeral services immediately following in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

PLYMOUTH - Several businesses received their automatic renewal on liquor licenses from the Marshall County Alcoholic Beverage Commission and one met Health Department requirements in a continued action.
Bertin Torres of Los Hermanos Lounge had come before the board at their previous meeting, seeking a transfer of a license for the bar. Torres had previously completed the purchase of the building for Los Hermanos.
HAMLET â The basketball, not to mention Culver Communityâs season, hung seemingly in suspended animation on the rim.
The ball, lofted wide open from the right block by South Central freshman center Riley Popplewell rolled off the front of the iron as regulation expired to extend the game and the Cavsâ season.
In the extra session, Culver sophomore forward Donna Zehner scored five points and swiped a pair of steals as the Cavs eked out a 41-39 overtime victory over the Satellites in the Class A Girls Basketball Sectional 51 opener at Oregon-Davis Tuesday.
NEW CARLISLE â Few teams can afford to overlook their opponents come tournament time, especially on their home floor.
At 1-19 coming into Tuesdayâs Class 3A Sectional 19 opener, host New Prairie looked like a pushover on paper, but the Lady Cougars came ready to play. Fortunately for Culver Girls Academy, so did they.
CGA took control early with a 13-2 game-opening run, and the Lady Eagles never looked back in an eventual 59-49 sectional quarterfinal win.

ROCHESTER â Don Gross, 90, was a resident of Rochester, formerly of Culver, and spent many winters in Florida. He has said âWhen it is my time to go I will go â Feb. 1, 2013 was his time to join the presence of our Lord. He was preceded in death by his 11 brothers and sisters.

PLYMOUTH â Patsy Jo (Mrs. Hal) Groninger, 69, of Plymouth, passed away suddenly in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at 10:10 a.m.
Patsy, a Marshall County resident most of her life, was born in Plymouth on Aug. 11, 1943. She was the daughter of Edgar D. and Edna Grace (Miller) Wright.
She attended Plymouthâs Lincoln High School.
She was married to her first husband, John Flynn in November of 1960, in LaPaz. John died on Christmas Day of 1970.
