Severe weather forced two postponements at Tuesday nightâs boys basketball sectional openers, pushing back several area teamsâ schedules in the 103rd Annual Boys State Basketball Tournament.
In the Class 3A Plymouth Sectional, New Prairieâs opener with South Bend St. Josephâs was pushed back to tonight at 7 p.m., forcing Wednesdayâs originally-scheduled quarterfinals featuring Culver Military versus Marian and the host Pilgrims versus Jimtown back to Thursday at their originally scheduled times of 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
CULVER â Culver Communityâs Collin Stevens made a habit of putting himself in the right place at the right time Tuesday.
The senior point guardâs crucial steal and game-icing assist, along with his 17 points, allowed the Cavs to turn back a furious Argos rally and escape with a 58-54 win in the Class A Boys Basketball Sectional 51 opener at John R. Nelson Gymnasium.
TOPEKA â It was a familiar foe and an all-too familiar result for Bremen at the Class 2A Westview Sectional opener.
After falling to the host Warriors in the Sectional 35 championship the previous two years and in five of their last six sectional outings, the Lions succumbed once more in Topeka Tuesday night as Westview held off the tenacious visitors down the stretch for a 71-59 victory that was closer than the final score indicated.
