Plymouth wins, CGA falls at New Prairie sectional

February 9, 2013

NEW CARLISLE — Friday night’s Class 3A Sectional 19 semifinals were both barn-burners, featuring a pair of clutch performances down the stretch.
The two games also ran the emotional gamut for area teams as Mishawaka Marian forward Katie Barnard’s go-ahead putback with 13.6 seconds remaining in the opener ended Culver Girls Academy’s season, 48-47, and Plymouth guard Haley Harrell put up all seven of her points to help her team rally back from a three-point deficit in the fourth quarter to hand South Bend St. Joseph a 32-29 defeat at New Prairie.

INDIANAPOLIS — After an impressive finish at the Warsaw sectional a week ago, Culver Girls Academy made some history.
They won just their second sectional title in school history and a repeat championship at that.
That success could not be duplicated Friday night in the IHSAA Girls State Swimming and Diving Championships at Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
Only one local girl qualified to swim today.
Bremen’s Katie Lafferty failed to qualify for the championship heat in the 100 freestyle with a time of :52.66.
